Some excerpts from the website of La Cartuja that might be useful
ECUADOR THE GALAPAGOS HANDBOOK, author ROBERT DAISY KUNSTAETTER. Charming hotel, beautifully decorated, spacious comfortable
rooms,
safety deposit boxes, very helpful and hospitable. WHAT A GEM We have just returned from a couple of weeks in Ecuador, where we stayed for 3 nights at La Cartuja. The
rooms given to us were in the mainpart of the building, and were large, bright, airy and spotlessly clean. The
bathrooms were good too, but the best thing was the plentiful supply of hot water in a good strong
shower. Much appreciated after a long busjourney from Riobamba. The staff were fantastic, always greeting you with a big smile. One morning they even got up to prepare
breakfast for us at 4.30am. Eventhough we were only 3 minutes walk from the main shopping area, the hotel was very
quiet and we managed a whole night sleep without being woken by traffic or cockerills or church bells. Strongly recommended. Guest form York, England. BEAUTIFUL OASIS IN A BUSTLING CITY We stayed at La Cartuja for a night prior to a
trip to Otavalo and for a night prior to our flight home. I cannot imagine a better bargain in Quito. We stayed in a
triple room for $59+tax and this rate included
breakfast for the three of us! The
room was pretty large and opened onto a
garden (the hotel was the former British Embassy), which we wished we had had more time to enjoy. The
room was decorated in yellows and blues and the beds were very comfortable. There is plenty of storage space in large wooden warddrobes and there is also
cable TV. The
bathroom was clean and spacious and there was plenty of hot water. The
breakfast room is on the opposite side of the
garden and has a number of dining booths. The
breakfast is help yourself toast/bread,
tea/
coffee and then eggs are served with juice. The first booth has free
internet for all guests. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful offering
wake up calls and they will call
taxis to the
airport for no extra charge. Also the
taxi fare was the standard $5, not an amount per person that some other hotels charge. Even though we did not take of advantage of it, due to time constraints, the hotel is located just a five minute walk to the Cultura
Centre where there are a number of museums. Definitely will stay there again when in Quito. Guest form Manchester, England. EXCELLENT FAMILY CHOICE This was an excellent choice for our two nights in Quito, travelling as a family of 5. The hotel made the
transfers to and from the
airport very easy for us. Arrangements went smoothly, with all booking made by email. We had two adjacent
rooms with
bathrooms - everything very clean and neat, and perfectly
safe. The Hotel has a beautiful
courtyard garden to relax in, and served a basic but adequate
breakfast in the
dining room. It was a great location from which to walk to see the town and old city, with plenty of choice for
restaurants nearby. We would definitely stay there again. Guests from New Zealand. BEAUTIFUL HOTEL WITH A TERRIFIC STAFF Because our flight got us into Quito at 10pm, we booked our stay at the Hotel La Cartuja before we left for Ecuador. The staff was able to arrange for someone to meet us at the
airport, and were there waiting for us when we arrived. We stayed two nights. The hotel is very nice, and the service is fantastic. We had many questions regarding travel and logistics for the evening clerk, Diana, and she was able to help us with everything. She also speaks very good English. Although we planned to see more of the country during our visit, we decided to book a
room again for the night before our very early flight home. Both visits and
rooms were very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quito. We would definitely stay there again. Guest from Chape Hill, North Carolina. WONDERFUL HOTEL AND STAFF I stayed 3 nights in August 2006. I became very ill and the staff was wonderful. Sent for medicine, even called me and reminded me it was time to take another pill. Very clean and
quiet and away from the noise. Wonderful
gardens.

We are set in a very priviledged location since we are in a
safe,
quiet and central area. This is a great advantage in a large city. Our neighbours are the USA and France embassies. Two blocks away there is the Central
Bank´s museum with an impressive gold collection. Next to it there is the main Indian market in the city. Two blocks away from the market there is the Amazonas Avenue a mecca for shoppers. We are also near the Mariscal district where you will find a wide range of
restaurants,
bars, coffe and handcraft
shops. Just crossing the street you can visit the Casa de la Cultura Museum, theatre and cinema. About 20 minutes walking is the magnificent colonial town, one of the best kept in south America.
