A 360° IMAGE OF ALASSIO. Some history of the area: Many legends have grown around the origins of Alassio, one of these recounts that Adelasia, daughter of Ottone Ist, and her husband Aleramo took refuge in the wide bay between Capo Mele and Santa Croce. The earliest inhabitants decended from the mountains in the early middle ages. Alassio was owned by the benedictines and later by the town of Albenga, following which it came under the control of the city of Genoa. An impressive defence system of high walls was erected aroud the town in the 16th century. Ars e architecture: In the historical
center you can still find old palaces, as the marchesi Ferro’s Palace, the Brea, Morteo, Scofferi. The railway station is in a style known as “liberty” (1920’s) with original decorations and furnishing still to be seen in the waiting
room. The church of “Sant Ambrogio” built in the XV century on a X century palace. A number of artistic items in its interior include paintings by Giovanni Andrea De Ferrari and Bernardo Castello. The Santissima Annunziata Church of Solva, dated 1382, then re-built a century later, interesting fresco’s inside representing the seven capital vices and hell. Maria Santissima Sanctuary on the Tirasso Mountain, behind Alassio is dated from the XIII century and later re-named Madonnna della Guardia, traditionally it is a church devoted to sea men, with many ex votos by men from the sea.. Turism: The wall known as “The muretto of Alassio” is well known on the riviera for its beaty contest in late summer. The wall is covered by ceramic tiles signed by famous personalities from all aspects of life, artists, athletes, shon biz, politics. Alassio’s beaches are in total 3.700 meters long, sand is of quartz, silica and mudstone, very fine sand and slopes gently into the sea, a very rare thing in ligurian beaches. Many high quality sport structures,
swimming pool, indoor stadium,
tennis courts, night clubs,
discos. The tourist harbour can accomodate up to 400 boats. The surrounding hills are interesting both for nature and their history. One can follow the ancient Julia Augusta road dating back to roman times, from the little church of Sant Croce to the old town of Albenga, or visit the hill villages of Solva or Moglio, or take one of the 25 marked pathways to the hills, maps available. The well known confectionary “Baci”, kisses sold locally, and the Solva Festival Biscette. To see: the island of Gallinara and the Passo delle Balene, where whales, dolphins and turtels can often be seen. These excursions are run by boat in mid-summer. The impressive Toirano caves, where traces of prehistoric man and cave bears can be seen. Charme Hotel Alassio-Residence

Wonderful little hotel... (an our customer from Vancouver, CANADA) Stayed here in June 2006. just across the street from one of the best beaches in Italy, this small hotel ozzes charm friendlness. Our
room was small but very nicely decorated. the owner and all the staff are very fliendly. We took the half board option at the hotel you cold not beat the quality of the food the value. you could enjoy up to 7 courses although we did not partake in all the courses: We couldn't wait for our
dinners and found them all to be delicious. even thought it is a small hotel they had a large number of desserts from wich to select and the meals were the highlight of staying at the Beau Rivage. 100 itinerari italiani, Q8, 1996 Recently restructured, it keeps on the cask shaped ceilings some old paintings.
Rooms are very elegant with floors in ardesia (a local stone).
Furnitures, generally antique, and the scottish tissue curtains make
rooms particulary comfortable. Le Comete 1993/94 A little old Hotel, reborn to a new life after a radical restyling. The result is really pleasant, the atmosphere is that of a beautifull holyday home, very fresh and simple, and very nice. The sitting
room is very charming, just like the
rooms, spacious and sober. A very good
restaurant, there is even a beach.. Alassio Hotel
