Wigtownshire, Galloway is a very beautiful area, full of historical interest, with a long coastline, some beautiful sandy beaches and the backdrop of the Southern Uplands of Scotland. The Galloway Forest Park is the largest in Britain at over 300 square miles where there exist many forest walks, trails and
beauty spots. Many visitors to Scotland charge up the M74, under the misapprehension that Scotland only begins North of Edinburgh or Glasgow, unaware that a few miles to their left is some of Scotland's most beautiful, undiscovered countryside in Dumfries Galloway. It has been said Galloway is 'Scotland rolled into one'. The

gardens in Scotland as Galloway is renowned for its variety. Visit Logan Botanic in the west of the region or Castle Kennedy and Glenwhan, to the more formal Cally and Threave
Gardens further to the east. By Gatehouse of Fleet A75 - Super adventure playground and ice cream dairy, large

On the way there, look out for the turning off to Mossyard Beach on the right past the caravan park, a sure fire attraction for children; sandy beach, and loads of sea-shells to see! Also from Newton Stewart on the left at Palnure (signposted) a short drive up into the hills see Cairnholy burial Cairn with some fabulous views over Wigtown Bay. Walking, Biking, Driving in Galloway Forest Park. To the North of Newton Stewart lies Britain's largest forest park. Over three hundred square miles to be explored by
bike - (new 'world class' mountain
bike trails link here). walking or driving. Visitor
centres at Glentrool and Kirroughtree. Forest, moorland and lochs rise to the rugged grandeur of mountains with names like The Merrick, Mullwharcher and the Rhinns of Kells. Visit the red deer range, watch the wild goats or visit the red kite

Trip to Northern Ireland? A day
trip to Belfast Northern Ireland takes less than 2 hours from Stranraer or Cairnryan. Off season returns as little as £12.00 per person. Go by. Off the A75roundabout by Castle Douglas. A pleasant walk across the country down to the river and thence by small boat to the castle on the island. Castle Douglas is a fine place for shopping, especially gifts. Also nearby are Threave

shop. Castle Douglas is Dumfries and Galloways 'Food Town'. Mull of Galloway and the Rhinns. Close to Logan Botanical
gardens is Logan Bay, a fine beach, and an unusual Victorian sea fish pond. Portpatrick (Rhinns) has a pretty harbour, good
pubs and
restaurants. Visit The Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point. Splendid views in all directions, with a visitor
centre (RSPB), lighthouse,
cafe. Red Kites have been successfully reintroduced into Galloway. At the Bellymack Farm feeding station, at 2pm every day, you can see over 20 at once! Off the A75 towards Stranraer - many acres to explore in these
gardens. Galloway Forest Park - the largest in Britain is a comfortable drive away. Mossyard beach - off the A75 towards Gatehouse of Fleet. Near Gatehouse of Fleet - fun for all and Ice Cream
See Do around Wigtown. Bookshops line the streets of Scotlands National Book Town. In Wigtown spend an easy day browsing through the shelves before stopping in our
restaurant for refreshment. There are around 20 book related
businesses around the community, which hosts a book fair in May and a literary festival in late September. Bladnoch Distillery and Visitor
Centre. Bladnoch Distillery, close by Wigtown, is Scotlands most southerly distillery, dating from the early 1800's. Learn about the traditions of making whisky on a 'whisky
tour' and enjoy a charming riverside and woodland walk nearby. As well as a wide choice of
Golf courses in Dumfries and Galloway Wigtown itself boasts a splendid 9 hole course. There are other courses nearby at Newton Stewart, Glenluce (18 hole) and a 9 hole links course by the sea at Monreith. Note: a 6 or 10-round Gateway to

Just a short walk from Glaisnock House lie the County Buildings restored to their former glory with a viewing
room overlooking Wigtown Bay. Here you may see the nesting Ospreys via the cctv link. Down by Wigtown harbour there is a bird hide overlooking the recently created wetlands. Whithorn, St. Ninian and the cradle of Christianity. Visit the museum that tells the story of the local community and the part it played in the evolution of Christianity in Scotland. The visitor
centre includes an
audio-visual presentation and exhibition, as well you may
tour of the excavation site. Garlieston, Rigg Bay, Kilsture Forest. A short drive south on the road to Garlieston take a stroll through Kilsture forest, a host of bluebells in the Spring. Visit Galloway House
Gardens and continue on through the
Gardens to the beach at Rigg Bay. There is a pleasant walk from Rigg Bay to the ruin of Cruggleton castle along the coast. There is also tank and heavy vehicle driving to try at Galloway Tanks near Garlieston. Wigtown Off Road driving. Try your hand at off road driving at the off-road driving
