Here's the proof that there's too much to see and too much to doo! Scotland's national book town is home to over 15 bookshops with over a quarter of a million books, plus many picture and gift shops to browse too. Whisky distillery with visitor centre and nearby walk through ancient oak wood that's home to a rare type of orchid. Wigtown Bladnoch County Golf Course. A 9-hole golf course with clubhouse, just 2 minutes walk from Brora Lodge. One of the many excellent golf courses in the area. Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve. The largest local nature reserve in UK.. Popular for a range of activities including bird watching (a purpose built hide is available just a few minutes walk from the Lodge) and angling, its an important area for salt-tolerant plants, fish and winter wildfowl. 5 minutes walk, or 1 mins drive from Brora Lodge. Wigtown County Building Wildlife Viewing Room. CCTV of Ospreys nesting in Galloway (May-Sept) and information on local fauna and birdwatching. Galloway Forest Park. Over 300 square miles of forest, moorland and lochs, again the UK's largest, just 15-20 minutes drive from Brora Lodge. A working organic farm and ice-cream maker with activities and events for all the family, with dreamy ice cream to buy. Torhouse Stone Circle. One of many Bronze-age stone circles dating back 4000 years. Geological museum of gemstones, minerals, rocks, crystals and fossils. Other museums in the area are the Creetown Heritage museum, Newton Stewart Heritage Museum, The Stewartry Museum in Kirkcudbright and the Stranraer Museum. All of them full of interesting items regarding local human and natural history. One of many beautiful gardens in the area, you can also visit Logan Botanical Gardens near Port Logan in the Rhins of Galloway, and Dunskey Gardens near Portpatrick. Wigtown Off-road Driving Centre. An off-road driving experience. 2 of the amazing 7 Stanes mountain bike areas are on our doorstep, Glentrool and Kirroughtree, provide some of the best mountain biking there is in the country. A 14th century castle by the shore of the river Dee, to get there you must ring the bell and wait for the boatman to ferry you over to the island. (March) From September to May Galloway plays host to tens of thousands of wild geese, over wintering in our mild climate. Hunt down the 6 species around the many recommended locations in the area, starting in the County buildings here in Wigtown. You can also meet the Rangers and attend talks and information rooms. Just a bit of good fun. (May) Booksellers from all over the UK provide numerous stalls, plus street markets and entertainment. Newton Stewart Walking Festival. (May) 25 guided walks over 7 days, from easy to extremely strenuous, walks take in coast and mountain in this stunningly beautiful area. Drop offs and pick-ups can be arranged. (July) Celebration of fine food and wine with a food market, cookery demonstrations and more. (Aug) Agricultural show featuring displays and other entertainment. (Aug/Sep) A festival of music and literature in Scotlands cradle of Christianity. Wigtown Annual Literary Festival. (Sep/Oct) A ten-day festival of literature featuring exhibitions, readings, poetry and much more. This is an important event attended by writers and book lovers alike. As many authors stay here its a chance to rub shoulders with them and discuss their books over breakfast. With Stranraer only 40 minutes drive away, why not explore Ireland for the day! Using the fast HSS ferry from Stranraer to Belfast. It can cost from approx. £23 for a foot passenger on a day return ticket, also coach trips to Dublin are available.

Brora Lodge has 4 bedrooms, being one double and three twin rooms. We are a no-smoking building. All the rooms are ground floor and feature: En-suite shower, toilet washbasin. Tea and coffee making facilities. Bed and breakfast is priced at: £50 per room per night *. * based on 2 persons sharing a room - single occupancy £35. A CotBed is available for children up to 5 years of age sharing parents room at £10 per night. Children from 6 to 16 will have to be in a separate room at £17.50 each per night. Payment only accepted by cash or cheque with Bank card. A supplement applies during Festival time of £10 and £5 respectively. Discounts offered for stays of 3 nights or more. Guests will enjoy a delicious freshly cooked breakfast, made with the best ingredients we can find. With a little help from you most vegetarian and vegan options can be provided. To be enjoyed in the conservatory dining room which overlooks the Bladnoch river valley, the reserve and Wigtown bay, and the Cree and Solway estuaries beyond. On a clear day you can see as far as the mountains of the Lake District. A comfortable residents lounge is also available, we have installed Satellite Digital TV, with live sport, so you need never miss that vital football game whilst staying here. We also have numerous books and games available should you wish to have a quiet time relaxing indoors. Whilst we are on one level within Brora Lodge, 6 steps must be climbed to enter the building. and we are sorry to advise that we do not have any disabled facilities.

From the M6 northbound, continue up the A74(M), leaving at junction 22 and onto the A75 heading towards Dumfries. From the M74 southbound, proceed onto the A74(M) and exit at junction 15 onto the A701 towards Dumfries. From Dumfries or Stranraer, use the A75 towards Newton Stewart. At the Newton Stewart roundabout on the A75, take the A714 towards Wigtown. About 6 miles later at the Wigtown town centre T junction, turn right and then about 300 yards later turn left (just after the Co-Op which is on the right) and then turn left again about 300 yards later on, into Station Road. Brora Lodge is on the right, again about 300 yards down.
