trips around the area on vintage coaches. Cycling Miles and miles of gently undulating country lanes await cyclists who wish to explore the region by this method. Bird Watching Buzzards, curlews, woodpeckers and thrush are but just a few of the species regularly sighted nearby. Within a short walk bird-watchers can be well off the beaten track with the possibility of sighting many species and the certainty of enjoying the wonderful countryside. Local History The locality has much to offer those interested in local history. For church enthusiasts, St. Oswald's church, rebuilt in 1744, is famous for it's three-decker pulpit and its collegiate, in-facing pews. In the grounds of the present church the foundations of an earlier Gilbertine monastry have been excavated. The first Lord Wharton cleared much of the land around Ravenstonedale for a deer park and compelled local men to build the enclosing wall, the remains of which can still be viewed in the vicinity. Tranna Hill is situated near Newbiggin-on-Lune, a peaceful and unspoilt village in the upper Eden valley in Cumbria. Newbiggin-on-Lune and the nearby village of Ravenstonedale are set amid beautiful rolling countryside in the parish of Ravenstonedale. They nestle at the foot of the Howgill fells between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks. This area really is a beautiful back-water, secluded and tranquil. Never-the-less the villages remain easy to get to with good transport links. For those planning an over-night stay while on the coast-to-coast walk our OS grid reference is 703054. We are only 0.5 miles from the Orton/Raisbeck to Kirkby Stephen section of the walk. Exit the M6 at junction 38 (Tebay). About five miles along the A685 is the village of Newbiggin-on-Lune where Tranna Hill is signposted up a road to the left. Turn left after the traffic island in the
centre of the road and then immediately left again. Tranna Hill is on your right.
Parking is available at the front of the house or continue on the road past Tranna Hill and take the first turn to the right and this will bring you to the back of house where private
parking awaits you. From the A1. Take the A66 west from Scotch corner to Brough. Turn south at Brough on the A685. Follow the A685 through Kirkby Stephen. Continue past the village of Newbiggin-on-Lune and just before the traffic island turn right for Great Asby and then immediately left for Kelleth. Tranna Hill is on your right.
Parking is available at the front of the house or continue on the road past Tranna Hill and take the first turn to the right and this will bring you to the back of house where private

Many of our guests enjoy an overnight stay while on the popular coast-to-coast walk. Others break their journey on their way to Scotland. We have been welcoming guests to Tranna Hill for the past 20 years and our aim is to ensure that you have an enjoyable and relaxing stay with us. While we enjoy an idyllic rural location at the foot of the fells we are only 5 miles from the M6 (38) and therefore very easy to locate. Our location between the Lake District and Yorkshire dales national parks makes Tranna Hill a superb base from which to explore both the lakes and dales.
