Situated in the small
health spa Bad Berka close to the Hotel Hubertushof is an ideal base for travelling Thuringia and exploring the region's history and culture. The dense woods around Bad Berka invite its visitors to long walks in beautiful nature. Not only is Bad Berka an ideal base for travelling the region, it is worth to be seen itself. Even Goethe, the greatest German poet, appreciated the
beauty of the town and the region in his time. At the end of the 19th century the first facilities to cure lung diseases were created in Berka. In 1911 the town became a
spa officially and from then on was called Bad Berka. After World War 2 the town became famous for treating tuberculosis patients. The Central Hospital. As a result of this two sanatoriums were built in the 1950s, the Central Hospital and the Ilmtal Hospital. The latter was rebuilt in the 1990s and now two modern hospitals, Median Hospital I and Median Hospital II, take its place. All Bad Berka hospitals are well known not only in Germany. Here, diseases such as cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease, digestive disease and metabolic diseases are treated with the most modern medical methods. A visit to Bad Berka, which now has a population of 5600 people, is not only recommendable to hospital patients, the
spa town is also an interesting destination for tourists. You will discover the special charm of the town when walking through its picturesque streets and the
spa gardens. The Goethe Well at the entrance of this beautiful park is a relic of former
spa life. The Goethe Alley, the main path of the
gardens, invites its visitors to rest on one of its many benches and enjoy the scenery. Coudray House at the edge of the park is a place for concerts, exhibitions and discussion groups and also home to a permanent exhibition on the history of Bad Berka and Goethe;s influence on it. If you like hiking, you will appreciate the extensive net of trails the region around Bad Berka has to offer. We especially recommend a walk to the Paulinentower. If you climb this tower you will be rewarded with a great view on Bad Berka, the Ilm valley and even the peaks of the Thuringian Forest. For further information on places of interest
