Winner of the Tourism Award 2004: Hotel Goldenes Schiff. The traditional private Austria Classic Hotel Goldenes Schiff in Bad Ischl won in the category Seminar Hotels. The Austrian health magazine Gesunder Leben (Live Healthier) awarded in the course of the Live Healthy days in Wels the Tourism Award 2004 to 18 hotels. About 5.900 votings from the readers of the health magazine were counted. They voted in six categories. The winning hotels: in the category Thermal Spas, Sport- and Vital Hotels Thermal Hotel Stoiser (Loipersdorf), in the category Health- and Cure Hotels the F.X. Mayr-Centre Park Hotel Igls, in the category Wellness-Hotels the Hotel Rogner (Bad Blumau), in the category Seminar Hotels the Austria Classic Hotel Goldenes Schiff (Bad Ischl), in the category Child- and Family Hotels the adventure Hotel Alpenrose Family Mayer (Lermoos) and in the category Small but distinguished Hotels the Hotel Seevilla (Altaussee). The fair Manager Brigitte Dallinger and the Gesunder Leben Managing Director Klaus Orthaber handed out the diplomas and trophies for the competition that was held for the second time. This four-star-hotel in the city centre directly on the banks of the Traun River and next to the famous Confectionary Zauner has 400 years of gastronomy tradition. Edwin Gruber, hotel owner in the 3rd generation who took over in the year 2000 has made it his task to extend and redesign the hotel. New top modern rooms have already been built in the last few years as well as a modern meeting area, an exquisite wellness area and all 55 rooms now have new bathrooms or they were modernised. The impression inside the hotel is a cosy and modern one, as a positive contrast to the imperial charm of the city of Bad Ischl. History of the hotel. The hotel has a long tradition, the building dates back to the 17th century. In 1810 the name Zum Goldenen Schiff was given to the then public house. In these days the restaurant was known as Traunlidl after its owner Augustin von Lidl. Although the couple had 12 children, none of them wanted to take over the company, so his widow was forced to sell it. In 1932 Benedikt Froch bought the Inn and in 1966 the youngest daughter, Christine Froch, married Josef Gruber and together they kept the restaurant. In the early 70ies the couple raised the building by 3 floors and equipped all rooms with shower/bath and toilet. Between 1968 and 1974 the 4 children Edwin, Sandra, Claudia and Jasmin where born. In 1987 Josef Gruber died during a car accident aged only 46. Through the support of their children, Mrs. Gruber was able to keep the hotel. In the winter 1991/92 the meeting room was built and since then meetings for up to 30 people can be arranged. In 1994 the Gruber family decided to lease the restaurant and since 1999 Mr. Wilhelm Eberl has run the restaurant which has rapidly become well known throughout the region attracting connoisseurs from near and far and is now recognised as a Gourmet Restaurant. In 1999 the neighbouring house was renovated and connected with the excisting hotel. Since then the hotel also offers an enjoyalbe wellness area. On the 1st of January 2000, the hotel was handed over to the son Edwin Gruber who continues the family tradition into the third generation. The latest reconstruction and renovation of all rooms has continued with the recent (May 2006) completion of a new spacious lobby, a new front desk as well as an attractive bar and lounge area.

Running / Nordic Walking Track Hotel Goldenes Schiff Course. Length: 6,07 km Degree of difficulty: medium Total rise: 70 meters in altitude. The course leads through a wonderful surrounding and is not too long. After the start you pass by the Hotel Goldenes Schiff, over the Kreuzersteg along the river Traun followed by soft ups and downs along the Rettenbach. Then to the Maxquellgasse and over the Elisabethbridge back to the park where you started your course.
