Teynham House is located at Vina del Mar which is on the coast, 120 km from the capital city, Santiago de Chile. To get Teynham House please see our map and read the following sections. Coaches to Vina del Mar leaves SANTIAGO from TERMINAL ALAMEDA Coach station, located at UNIVERSIDAD DE SANTIAGO METRO underground station. PULLMAN BUS and TUR BUS go to Vina del Mar every fifteen minutes during the day and the journey takes approximately one hour and forty five minutes. They arrive at RODOVIARIO de VINA DEL MAR Coach Station. From RODOVIARIO it is a short walk -approximately 5 minutes- where you can catch a bus (see section «By Bus») to TEYNHAM HOUSE or alternatively take a
taxi (see section «By
Taxi»). Bus number 23 Expreso Vina del Mar (the blue one) runs between PLAZA SUCRE (a short walk from RODOVIARIO de VINA DEL MAR through Av. Valparaiso street) and Agua Santa. In addition bus services 24 Expreso Vina del Mar operate in the same route, they all stop at Agua Santa street with San Jose street just outside of GRUTA LOURDES where you can walk to TEYNHAM HOUSE. From San Jose street, use the route : San Jose-San Miguel-Merced Oriente (see map). In addition, you can catch the bus number 22 El Dorado (the gold one) at Arlegui street after Puente Libertad in front of PLAZA VERGARA (two blocks from RODOVIARIO de VINA DEL MAR through Arlegui street). When the bus starts to climb the hill ask driver to stop at LAS ROSAS street where you can walk to TEYNHAM HOUSE. From Las Rosas street, use the route : Las Rosas -Merced Oriente (see map).
Taxis are available from Santiago to Vina del Mar, but it is not recommendable because it can be very expensive. Just at RODOVIARIO de VINA DEL MAR it is possible to take a
taxi to TEYNHAM HOUSE, ask to the driver the fare before to catch it, usually they increase the fare for tourists (but it can be between 2000 and 2500 pesos). BY FOOT (15 to 20 minutes). From RODOVIARIO de VINA DEL MAR Coach Station take Av. Valparaiso street and walk up to Traslavina street, then turn left and walk uphill. Then you will see that there is two streets in front of you, take Egana street, in other words, continue straight. Just a few walk you will see on the left hand a stair : Escalera Las Rosas take it ( the stair is very long) you will get San Jose street. Then turn right and walk up to San Miguel street, then turn left and walk up to Merced Oriente street and finally turn right. From Santiago take Ruta 68 Santiago -Vina del Mar Valparaiso. Then take the detour to Vina del Mar. When you start to arrive to Vina del Mar the road starts to go down, when you see the gas station on the left side pay attention because you are near. Continue driving and pay attention to the right hand of the road, you will see GRUTA LOURDES (a kind of Church) and San Jose Street, turn right at San Jose, then turn right at San Miguel Street and finally turn right at Merced Oriente Street. The street Merced Oriente is very short, however, sometimes is called Merced, in fact there is two places along the street where the name put on the wall are Merced. Be aware of this, but the official name is Merced Oriente.

Founded in 1874, Vina del Mar is the most important chilean tourist city. One of the characteristics of the city is the architecture, a quantity of buildings such as Castillo Ross, Castillo Wulff, Castillo Brunet, Palacio Valle, Palacio Vergara (shown left), Palacio Presidencial, Palacio Carrasco, Palacio Rioja (built in 1906 Spanish banker). Playa Acapulco, Playa el Sol, Playa Blanca, Playa los Marineros, Playa Caleta Abarca, Playa de Renaca,Playa Las Salinas are the most famous beaches. Jardin Botanico (shown left), a beautiful park, it was built in the 30´s by Pascual Babburizza, salitre entrepreneur. It has 3000 different vegetable species, a collection of cactus and a lake. Quinta Vergara a beautiful park in the city inside this there are Palacio Vergara and the stages where the Festival Internacional de la Cancion de Vina del Mar is performed every summer. TEYNHAM HOUSE IS AN EARTH FRIENDLY BB. Teynham House is permanently recycling its organic trash using an old bin located in the back yard. There we dispose all organic waste such as coffe ground, grass clippings, fruit wastes, table scraps and so on. With this method we obtain compost that we use in all our plants. Help us to recycling by doing garbage minimisation using a special trash can (in the
kitchen) where you could dispose your trash separately (Organic - Not Organic). VALPARAISO has been declared UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE. It'S SPRING AT TEYNHAM HOUSE. Little details are announcing a new cicle. Our little Araucaria, son of the ancient trees from chilean's wild south, yet no ready to bring us its fruit, however our backyard's apricot tree is starting to feel the effects of spring. Days are larger and warmer to enjoy this city. Teynham House invite spring to give to our guests the
quiet atmosphere that we found here at Vina del Mar - Valparaiso. At Castillo hill, you can enjoy a peaceful reading with the sea in front of you. Declared UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE (July 2003). Founded in 1536, Valparaiso was the most important city in the South Pacific coast during the 19th century due to the British naval and commercial presence. Consequently
banks, shipping agency, financial organizations had they headquarters here in this period. One of the most interesting and exciting thing are the Ascensores, a kind of funicular railways, this special mean of transportation connect the lower city, El Plan, and the upper city. These ascensores were built between 1880 and 1914 and there are 16 ascensores working every day. Ascensores like Polanco, Bellavista, Turri, Concepcion Peral are the most famous, taking one of this ascensores is an experience! LA SEBASTIANA, NERUDA'S HOUSE. Located at Cerro Florida The Nobel Prize PABLO NERUDA used to live there enjoying the peaceful and the fantastic view of the bay. Today is a beautiful museum where you can see his belongings and a collection of interesting objects. Every Sunday morning at Avenida Argentina and Plaza O’Higgins hundred of persons visit the antiques fair looking for magazines, tools or something freak. As usual in this fair you can negotiate the price of every thing. Valparaiso has at least 20 hills or “Cerros”, several of them are worth visiting. Cerro Concepcion with the Anglican church dating from 1854, Cerro Bellavista where you can find the “Museo a Cielo Abierto” a collection of 20 murals painted on the exterior of buildings as you climb the hill starting from “Plaza Victoria”, Cerro Alegre with “Palacio Baburizza” Art Nouveau palace hosting modern paintings, Chilean landscapes and seascapes as well. The road which connects all the hills is “Av Cintura-Av Alemania” from there is it possible to find interesting views of the bay. Paseo Yugoslavo, Paseo Atkinson and Paseo Gervasoni are the most famous walks with a beautiful view.
