The Lighthouse Woodshed -Weekly Rentals Only- The Woodshed is nestled beside the light keeper's house, surrounded on three sides by water and featuring dramatic open sea to the south, Isle au Haut Thorofare views to the north, woods and happy chickens on the east. Nice private bath. A full kitchen allows you to provide for your meals. Also, downstairs is a large living/dining area. Sleeping quarters are up the spiral stairs: here you'll find an airy dormered room with a double bed and a terrific water view and an adjacent small study, suitable for vacation projects or an additional guest. This post and beam was originally used by the lighthouse keepers as a barn and storage building, but it's now snug and cozy with its own heating stove, music system, linens and towels and everything you need for cooking (bring your own provisions or shop at the Island General Store, a mile and a half away by bicycle (or catch a ride on the Green-machine or in the outboard with Jeff and Judi on their daily excursions into town to pick up mail), or hook up with one of several island cooks for an incredible catered meal). Off the road, off the power-grid, and off the map, the Woodshed is powered by solar energy and a windmill. Our crystal-clear water is extracted from the sea by a generator-driven desalination contraption near the woodshed that rumbles several hours a day, so please help us conserve water and power (and limit the noise) with judicious us of lights and shower. The weekly rental fee (Saturday to Saturday) for two is $1,500 (Maine has a 7% Sales/Lodging Tax). Call (207) 460-0257 for Availability or to make reservations, or make. About Keeper's House Inn and Cottage Rental. The Keeper's House Inn, an operating lighthouse station located on the remote island of Isle Au Haut, sits atop rugged ledges overlooking the Atlantic, surrounded by dense spruce forests and island panoramas. Built by the U.S. Lighthouse Board in 1907 and now on the National Register of Historic Places, the restored lighthouse station is a living museum where guests can take a step back in time to experience the beauty and solitude of another era. The Acadia National Park System includes over half of the island, maintaining it as a wilderness area and limiting access to a few dozen visitors a day from off the island. The Inn provides bikes for guests curious to explore the park, the village, or to follow the town road around the island to an idyllic swimming pond. Untouched by tourist development, Isle Au Haut is a naturalist's delight. Deer, seals, osprey, and porpoises visit the lighthouse and the spectacular trails of Acadia are at our doorstep. Hiking, relaxation, contemplation, conversation and fine dining will highlight your stay at The Keeper's House. (Click on the photo to right to enlarge.). For anyone curious about the inside story of the Keeper's House Inn, sink into your favorite reading chair with innkeeper Jeffrey Burke's award winning book, Island Lighthouse Inn: A Chronicle. It's available through your local bookseller or online at. For a personal signed copy, order through the Keeper's House Inn, PO Box 26, Isle au Haut, Maine 04645.
