We suggest reservations be made by phone as far ahead as possible. To confirm a reservation a credit card number is required. The Inn on Carleton accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, cash, personal checks and traveler's checks. A reservation confirmation along with a brochure and directions to the Inn will be sent by return mail. In-Season (May 21st to November 17th): $129.00 - $219.00 (Double Occupancy) Serenity-Season (November 17th to May 21st): (EXCEPT HOLIDAYS): $99.00 - $179.00 (Double Occupancy). Maine lodging tax is 7%. Add $25.00 for an additional person. Cancellation/Refund Policy: You may cancel or shorten your reservation, without a penalty 14 days prior to your arrival. If you cancel or shorten your reservation after the 14-day grace period, you will be charged for one night. Exceptions: If the room rents to someone else, you be charged only a $35.00 service charge. Check-in time is between 4:00 and 6:00 P.M. Special arrangements can be made for either early or late arrivals. Check-out time is 10:30 A.M., however, guests may continue to use the parlor. You may relocate your luggage to our holding area, on the first floor. This allows our staff to properly chamber the rooms to serve the arrival of our next guests. Smoking is not permitted in the Inn for safety reasons as well as for the comfort of other guests. We will be happy to accommodate children ages nine and older. PRINCE PHILIP - ROOM 1. The Inn is a historic landmark known as the Grandville Chase Block. It is listed on the local and national historic registry. The Inn was the first house on Carleton Street and one of the first houses built in the Western Promenade neighborhood of Portland, Maine in 1869. The Inn is also listed with the Society for the Preservation of New England antiquities as being one of the homes that Charles Schumacher created his famous trompe l`oeil paintings and murals in. The Inn has begun the process of uncovering and restoring some of Charles Schumacher's famous paintings. The first restoration project in the entryway has just been completed. From Maine Turnpike (I-95), take Exit 6A onto Interstate 295. Take Exit 4 and proceed across bridge, taking first right exit and immediate left onto Danforth Street. Take first left at blinking light onto Vaughan Street proceeding to the next blinking light (at West Street). Turn right onto West Street and go to the first street and turn left onto Carleton Street which happens to be a one way street. The Carleton Inn is on the left at the corner of Carleton and West Streets our street address number is 46 Carleton Street. Take I-95 South to Portland/I-295 South. Take Exit 6A off I-295 South. Follow 77 South (State Street) up the hill to Congress Street. At the top of the hill, you will see the Longfellow monument. Cross Congress Street and make an immediate right onto Pine Street just before the Frame Shop. Follow Pine Street 2 blocks and bear right onto West Street. Carleton Street is the first right off West. The Inn is the first house on the left (#46). From the Portland International Jetport: Follow the airport access road out of the airport to Congress Street, Route 22. Turn right onto Congress Street and continue on Congress until you reach Bramhall Street. (Bramhall Street is on the right at the top of the Congress Street hill. The Maine Medical Center will be on your right.) At the traffic light, turn right onto Bramhall Street. At the fork in the road, bear left onto Vaughn Street. Go to the flashing red light.
