Domenico Ridola family throughout the hottest days of the summer in order to guard their vast agricultural property during the age in which the confines of the city of Matera were still concentrated around the historic medieval center and the Rioni Sassi. The aristocratic villa, that still boasts a superb 18th century garden comprised of native materials, incorporated the typical defense elements (embrasures and vertical shafts) of a brigand refuge, much like many of the numerous fortified large farms positioned throughout the Matera area. Today, the Hotel del Campo of Matera is a 4 Star Hotel, the first one ever established in the city of Sassi, during a period in which the strong increase in tourist traffic and the subsequent development of accommodations had not yet occurred. Great foresight, nourished by a fundamental welcoming culture, has produced a hotel patronized by businessmen and tourists alike, and characterized by a high-level of loyalty, which confirms the comfort of the surroundings and the informal friendliness of the transactions. The Hotel del Campo of Matera has 35 available rooms, some of which are distinguished by their generous proportions and dedicated furnishings.
