Some excerpts from the website of Black Lantern that might be useful
The Maine State Music Theatre, the longest operating summer theater in the United States, is just one mile from the Black Lantern, on the Bowdoin College campus. Only minutes away: The Maine Maritime Museum. The rugged and scenic Reid State Park. White-sanded Popham Beach. Numerous antique shops. The Freeport shopping district with L.L. Bean. The Topsham area has many fine restaurants. Judy and Tom keep current menus, and have personally eaten at each of the restaurants they recommend. The Black Lantern is on a marked bike trail providing safe and easy access for cyclists, joggers, and walkers to a beautiful, paved off road trail along the shore of the Androscoggin River, one of Maine's largest rivers.
The Black Lantern features warm and gracious hospitality with period furnishings throughout. Enjoy a hearty breakfast in the dining room or alfresco (weather permitting). Each of the three guest rooms has a private bath. The Black Lantern is a smoke free B B. Sorry, but we are not equipped for children under the age of 10. Wags, resident Shih-Tzu, is hypoallergenic very friendly but requests that no other pets come to visit,
Rooms one, two and three (private bath in room) are $95-$110 per night. All rates are Double Occupancy with a queen bed and include a full hearty breakfast. Accommodations are subject to Maine State Tax. Additional cot is available upon request. Check in time is between 3PM and 6PM. To arrange a different time, please call. Check out time is 11AM.
The Inn has been tastefully restored by Tom and Judy Connelie. Tom, a retired Commander in the U.S. Naval Civil Engineer Corps, and Judy, a registered nurse at Disneyland for eleven years, fell in love with Maine while vacationing several years ago, and dreamt of one day returning to open a bed and breakfast. If you are a quilter, bring along your latest project while Judy works on hers, or practice your hand quilting on the piece always set up in the parlor.
