The popular market town of Pickering is a friendly place with a good variety of small shops, cafes and restaurants. It offers offers the perfect central base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. Home of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - an 18 mile line runs between Pickering and Grosmont. You can take a trip on the steam train through some outstanding countryside to Goathland where the popular T.V. series is filmed. Regular events are held throughout the year including the ever popular Wartime Weekend held in October when the whole town is transported back to the 1940's. Pickering castle dates back to the 12th Century. The Beck Isle Museum is situated near to Pickering Beck has collections mainly from the Victorian era with typical rooms, shops and farming equipment. A large car boot sale is held throughout the summer months on the Pickering showground. Market day in Pickering is on a Monday with a lively street market together with the ever popular regular Farmer's markets. Just a few of the places to visit.
