Here again great hospitality 17/10/07. A TripAdvisor Member. We were going to visit family and friends in Leeds, and on all previous occasions have stayed in Leeds, decided this time to try something a bit further out of the city. We knew we wanted to be North of the city in the vicinity of Wetherby and after surfing the net came across Four Gables Bed Breakfast, about 4/5 miles south west of Wetherby. it is a wonderful Grade 11 listed building, think built around 1900. We found Anne David wonderful hosts. Our king room overlooked a lovely garden with a croquet lawn. The breakfasts were wonderful, each day besides the normal cereals, fresh orange juice, homemade jams and preserves, full english, each day of the week there is a different speciality and on a Friday it is French Toast (beleive a muffin is used)- would love the recipe - it is not fried apparently but baked. Having free wifi was great. Lovely walk along the River Wharfe, and a couple of good restaurants nearby - would definitely return when we have to be in Leeds again. This TripAdvisor Member: Liked — spacious bedroom. I have family in Wetherby but it really suffers from a lack of decent hotels. Usually we get a cottage within driving distance but I planned this trip to use public transportation and walk if I could, so Boston Spas distance from Wetherby worked well. Four Gables is an excellent B and B. Anne and David really go out of their way to make you feel at home, the rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast is sublime. Boston Spa is a charming Yorkshire village, very close to the A1 and to York itself. I would absolutely go back to Four Gables and can highly recommend it. Liked — The Breakfast, the room, the house, the village. My first impression of The Four Gables from the outside when I first arrived was that it is such a beautiful property. The inside was even more impressive - beautifully restored, immaculately kept and wonderfully warm. The decor, interior finishings, furniture and little touches shows just how much love and pride that Anne and David Watts had in the house. Due to my job, I have been to loads of BB and hotels, but this one ranked up there amongst the most delightful surprises, and I am comparing it to 4 star hotels. Anne makes home made jams, compote as well as special daily breakfast every morning such as cinammon french toasts, and fluffly cheese/mushroom omelettes to name a few. I normally only have cereal and fruit, as I did not want to have too heavy a breakfast and thus, unable to concentrate at work! On my very first visit, I was given a lovely little double bed room with en-suite. However, that night for some reason I found my mattress a little lumpy and did not sleep well. When I told Anne of this, she apologised and gave me a jar of marmalade 'with a dash of gin', and hoped that I would return despite my rough night. I did indeed return, to find that she had replaced the mattress with one of superb quality! Suffice to say that I had a really good night sleep after that, and have stayed there a few more times since then. It is really a beautiful place, with an air of peace and calm, and I will definitely return. I only hope that other BB or hotels can learn from the Four Gables, especially when it comes to commitment to quality and personal pride in delivering excellent customer service. thetravellingw0rker's Summary. Four Gables, a unique Arts Crafts house built in 1900, is Grade 2 Listed. Character and period features include oak and terracotta floors, fireplaces, stone mullion windows and elegant moulded ceilings, open arcade to main staircase… but there is also a tranquil, serene ambience that is harder to quantify – maybe it’s the way the light shines into the breakfast hall, or maybe it just reflects how hard David and Anne Watts work to get all the details right. From the art work on the walls to the heated mirrors in the bathrooms, from the crisp white Egyptian cotton linen to the well-stocked tea tray, guests will find that their needs and wants have been anticipated. An attractive and spacious lounge is available for guests’ use, and guests are welcome to stroll around the garden (2006 recipient of a Silver Gilt Award by Yorkshire in Bloom) and to play a game of croquet. Wi-Fi, i.e. wireless internet access, is provided for guests’ convenience free of charge. A laptop is available for guests traveling without a computer. Rooms have ipod docking base. Four Gables is 100% smoke-free. The house is in a peaceful setting down a private lane, yet only 5 minutes’ walk from the bustling Georgian village of Boston Spa with its restaurants, shops and riverside walks. The beautiful gardens, extending over half an acre, include a well-tended croquet lawn, two ponds, a Japanese garden, a sunken garden, etc etc. and are stocked with an interesting collection of plants and trees. The Garden won a Silver award in 2007 - Yorkshire in Bloom. In 2008 we are going for Gold! Four Gables is well located in Boston Spa, near Wetherby in West Yorkshire, halfway between London and Edinburgh. It is an ideal place to stay for visits to York, Leeds, Harrogate, the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors

Italian restaurant with a casual but lively atmosphere, with a wine bar upstairs and restaurant downstairs. Good food at reasonable prices, whether you fancy just a pizza or pasta or something more substantial. Open 7 days, until 10 on weekdays, 11 on weekends.. The Crown is a hotel, pub restaurant. Good, basic food, not too fancy, not too expensive. A wine bar with a casual, friendly atmosphere – a nice place to go for cup of coffee as well. Food is limited. In case you are wondering about the name, it used to be “Apres” (the owner is an avid skier) until it was pointed out that the name was already in use somewhere else. Described as “Thai fusion” cuisine, this is very good indeed. Thai Jantra is scrupulous about sourcing their ingredients locally and seasonally – and they seem to know what to do with them. The flavours are fresh and distinctly Thai. They offer an early bird special with 3 courses and a glass of wine. They can be very busy, so booking is recommended. www.thai-jantra.co.uk. The Garden Cottage has come a long way from its humble beginning as a laundry, coal shed and gardener’s privy (it was originally called The Privvy, but we thought Garden Cottage sounds more inviting). It is now a lovely apartment with a full size bedroom and an open-plan lounge with a small dining area and kitchenette (fridge, microwave, hob) as well as a shower room. Warm shades of wood and an oriental feel to the period furniture, art work and soothing colours, make for a calm and peaceful ambience. The sofa in the lounge makes up into an optional additional bed which works very well for two children or one adult. A private patio outside with table and chairs is for guests’ exclusive use. Your well-behaved dog is welcome in the Garden Cottage. £38.50 - £43.50/night per person for double occupancy, or £56 – 75 for single occupancy, depending on no. of nights. £25-30 per person for additional guests.)
