This Queen Anne Victorian mansion was built in 1905 for Robert B. Wallace, son of the man whose homestead encompassed the historic area known as Wallace Woods. The house was originally built as a single-family residence, with servants quarters on the third floor. The Thorpe sisters were the second owners of the house and enlarged it in the 1920s by adding two bedrooms and a bath to the backside of the house. They operated a boarding house. Thorpes lived in the home until the early 1930s. A local pharmacist and his wife, Gertrude Beard, who converted the house to a 3-family, then purchased the home. Each floor was an apartment with its own private entrance. Mrs. Beard lived here until the early 1990s. Mrs. Beards stove is still used in the BB to this day. In the early 1990s, the Plummers, who renovated the 1st and 2nd floors, purchased the home. In 1998 the home was purchased by Bill Jenni Woodruff. In November 2000 renovation began on the second and third floor to convert the home from multi-family into a bed and breakfast. The renovation was completed March 31, 2001 and The Wallace House Bed Breakfast opened on April 1, 2001. The Wallace House Bed Breakfast is located in the historic Wallace Woods neighborhood of Covington, KY. For more information on the history of Wallace Woods, visit www.wallacewoods.org
