Some excerpts from the website of Gingerbread Apartments Hotel that might be useful
Ten sandy paces from the sea and only a hundred more from Port Elizabeth (one of the most adorable towns in the Caribbean), Gingerbread would be desirable for its location alone. But the inn is also fabulous looking with delicate fretworks, curlicued rooflines, and gables with rose medallions - all hand-tooled by Bequian artisans. Its nine
rooms are smart, styled with greenheart-wood four-posters, clay lamps, straw mats, and bright
banquettes.... Travel Leisure Magazine. Centrally located on Admiralty Bay, Bequia's wide and gentle harbour, Gingerbread Hotel is within a few minutes' walk of Port Elizabeth, the island's administrative
centre, where you will find shopping,
restaurants and the ferry dock. Five minutes in a water-
taxi brings you to either Princess Margaret Beach, or Lower Bay, two of the island's finest beaches. For more than a decade Gingerbread has been an outstandingly elegant, yet relaxed,
restaurant, with a menu ranging from Caribbean to International dishes. Live, non-amplified, music adds charm several nights per week. The
cafe on the bayside is a great meeting place. The new Bequia
suites, completed in 1998, offer the island's most attractive accommodation. With the sea just a few feet in front of you, the Gingerbread
Restaurant on one side and the Frangipani Hotel on the other, with a dive
shop and a travel agency on the premises, with kayaks,
tennis, and day
trips to the Grenadines waiting to tempt you, your holiday at Gingerbread is yours, simply, to enjoy. e-mail:

Bequia is just seven square miles but is the largest and most northerly of the St. Vincent Grenadines, a chain of islands that trails south from the main island of St. Vincent like the tail of a kite. Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island and Petit St. Vincent are all, along with a score of smaller islets, part of the country of St. Vincent the Grenadines which is independent, but still part of the British Commonwealth. Bequia's most notable feature is the large and inviting harbour of Admiralty Bay which, since the seventeeth century, attract- ed the navies of several European powers, and more recently has exerted its charms on yachts and trading ships from around the world. Gingerbread Hotel is located on the southeast shore of the harbour on what is known as the Belmont Walkway. Too far south to suffer the onslaught of major hurricanes, cooled by the tradewinds for most of the year, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 33 degrees celsius (70 to 90 degrees fahrenheit), there is little difference in climate over the year. Very little rain falls from January through April. Being a sea-oriented community cool, casual clothes are the norm.
