Built on the site of an ancient Arawak village and only minutes from beautiful Shoal Bay Beach, this comfortable and inviting family-run hotel is a good value (for pricey Anguilla, anyway), especially during the summer months. It opens onto views of Scilly Cay and Captains Ridge. It offers studios and one-bedroom suites in octagonal-shaped buildings. Beachfront units are built in the style of a re-created Amerindian village and are equipped with wet bars and coffeemakers, plus large balconies or terraces. Furnishings are comfortable and include king-size beds, plus small bathrooms, each with a shower. The rather formal restaurant features a good Continental and Caribbean menu.. An excellent choice for a low-key, funky Anguillian respite is this intimate gem. These breezy hexagonal two-story villas sing with island warmth and color. The pricier units on the top floors are more spacious, a bit quieter, and enjoy spectacular view of the rocky shores of boat-dotted Island Harbor and beyond to Scilly Key. Some rooms have large four-poster rattan beds, some have kitchenettes. Most arent air-conditioned, and those that are cost more, but the harbor breezes are usually sufficiently cooling. The inns manager, Maria will make you feel like one of the family by the time you leave. Mix your own drinks at the bar or, if Maurice is on the island, have him mix you the best Bloody Mary anywhere. The Arawak Caf, splashed in psychedelic colors, serves chef Maudes special pizzas and lip-smacking Caribbean comfort food. The restaurant/lounge/pool area has wireless internet connectivity, and a small private cove with a sandy beach is just a five minute walk. The property has been greatly improved. This intimate gem sings with island warmth and color. Hexagonal, breezy, two-story villas painted the soft pastels of a Caribbean dawn offer spectacular views of the narrow beach and boat-dotted harbor. Deluxe units are far posher, with four-poster rattan beds, mahogany and teak furnishings, and brilliant tropical fabrics. The Arawak Cafe, splashed in hallucinogenic colors, serves chef Maude's lip-smacking Caribbean comfort food. The staff arranges numerous expeditions, and the international clientele is cultured (the inn hosts art workshops from pottery to Chinese watercoloring). FODOR'S. My family and I just returned from 5 nights at the Arawak Beach Inn. It was by far the most enjoyable visit of any of our many Caribbean island trips. Maria and her children brought style, class, pleasure, and quality to our stay which can be uncommon in other Caribbean establishments. I recommend the Arawak for anyone who desires a comfortable, clean and fun place to stay while visiting Anguilla. Maria was so quick and professional when responding to any request that we brought to her. Give the Arawak a tray and you will not be disappointed. MICHAEL, PAMELA, and CHELSEA, Batesville MS.
