rooms with private
baths, hot water, fans. Eleven
rooms have AC. Reservations $18- $26 per person with
dinner or
breakfast. They offer great tips on how to get the most from your day in Tikal or on
trips in the Tikal and Flores, Peten area. Provide
laundry service, cash traveler's checks, change US currency have bus service to Tikal, Flores ($5.50 R/T), and also to Guatemala City, Palenque, Rio Dulce, Coban, Belize, and Chetumal. The

rooms are well cared for and most have at least a partial view of the lake. The grounds are lush and walkways are beautifully laid native rock. Each hotel
room has a fan, and there are four
air-conditioned rooms. The water is
safe, although most guests
drink bottled water. People tell us the food is excellent. Exotic Fruits are served when in season. The
dining room is spacious and airy, with a great view of the lake. Rosita's desserts are well known and favored by local visitors. The hotel
restaurant serves both Guatemalan dishes and international plates Our customers say our meals are excellent. David is originally from Florida and has been in Guatemala for twenty five years. He built the first Jungle Hotel on the lake. Locals named him The Gringo Perdido (the lost gringo). He no longer owns the Gringo Perdido Hotel or has any association with it, but now has a small
10 room hotel/bungalows called La Casa De Don David Hotel and Bungalows in El Remate. (1999) ---David's Guatemalan wife and their daughter help run the place. He arranges horseback rides to the jungle, boat rides touring the lake, fishing
trips, and excursions to Tikal and other ruins. On request he will take small groups on his legendary tarantula

lunches for picnics at Tikal. There is also a large gazebo with hammocks in the large botanical
garden area of the hotel. The entrance fee to Tikal is relatively inexpensive, about $6 US, and if you will convert to the local currency at the hotel you will get a further break as the hotel offers the best conversions rates available.
