Trip. The Skellig rocks, an early start is necessary to take a
trip to the Famous Skellig Rocks. Which are located 12kms off the coast of Kerry, Ireland, are of such an importance that they have been made a World Heritage Site a
trip to Kerry is not complete without a visit. Magnificent views of the bay can be had from the boat
trip out to the rocks. Make your way up the great Skellig where the monastic settlement is located. The small Skellig is easily viewed from here with all its puffins, razorbills among others for bird watchers, it is renowned as an important breeding site for many threatened species of sea birds, while botanists can marvel at the abundant local flora, much of which is to be found nowhere else in Ireland. Boats leave from Portmagee harbour everyday at 10.30am and return at 3.30pm, the
trip costs 40-euro person and can be organised here at the hotel. We also provide a

Caherdaniel Situated 7km from Waterville you can visit Derrynane House - home to the late Daniel O Connell The Liberator.The house is restored to its former glory with the addition of a museum and period furnishings. Today some 120 hectares of the lands of Derrynane, together with Derrynane House, make up Derrynane National Historic Park. Plantations and

Then drive through the Glen stopping and sample the irresistible hand-made brandy and champagne truffles at the Skellig chocolate factory, carry on and admire the views of the spectacular Skellig Rock at. Stop in Portmagee a small fishing village over looking the harbour. Carry on across the bridge to Valentia Island - Valentia Slate Quarry and Lighthouse; you can drive down to the lighthouse, though the atmosphere is best sampled on foot. The Lighthouse itself was once a Cromwellian fort, guarding the harbour with its colleague across the mouth of the harbour on Beginnis Island. There is a great view of the Atlantic from here. You can drive all the way to the Grotto and Slate Quarry, but it's much more enjoyable to leave the car at the cross road to the lighthouse, the island is also well know for its tropical
gardens at Glanleam House. Finish off your
trip to Valentia Island with a
drink in the Royal Hotel which over looks Valentia harbour, Valentia is Europes most westerly harbour and the first telegraph
cable was laid across the Atlantic from the United States to the Island in 1858. Finally take the car ferry across to Renard Point and return to the hotel for a relaxing afternoon

GOLF COURSE Skellig Bay is a stunning Ron Kirby designed championship
golf course. The course is Ron's only total design project here in Ireland - though he has Dromoland Castle, Greystones and Stackstown as other design credits for course upgrades and improvements. Over 7,400 yards in length, the course has 5 tees on every hole. Skellig Bay

FISHING Fishing Season: 17th January 30th September Waterville's Lough Currane is renowned worldwide for the quality of its Salmon and Sea trout fishing. Lough Currane - a few feet away from sea level with a beautiful backdrop of mountains and spruce forests. Big spring salmon and vast numbers of seatrout have to run only 500 yard length of the river to reach the lough. Fly fishing is the norm and some trolling for early season sport are carried out on the lough. Ghillies will hold the boat close to underwater rocks, islands and headlands, while anglers fly fish. SALMON FISHING The main Spring salmon run is from January to May. Average weight 10lbs. A 12ft to 15ft. double handed fly rod is recommended. Popular patterns are Hairy Mary, Thunder and lightening, Munro Killer, Black Doctor, Blue Charm, in sizes 6,8 and 10. The main grilse run from May to September. Average weight is 5lbs, and lighter tackle than that used for the Spring is recommended. SEA - TROUT FISHING The sea trout fishing begins in Mid-May. Average weight 2-2 ½ lbs. From July onwards Finnock(known locally as juniors)can also be caught. Average weight 1-1 ½ lbs. A single handed 10ft-11ft rod is recommended and popular patterns are Bibio, Black Pennell, Claret Bumble, Connemara Black, Fiery Brown and Watsons Fancy in sizes 8,10,12, and 14. THE INNY RIVER River in the Waterville catchment area are generally spate ribers so fishing is best arranged during the holiday and according to conditions at the time. The catchment is a long narrow mountain valley of some 47 square miles, the fishing which can be excellent is usually confined to about 8 hours following a spate. Deep-sea angling also available. Boats are available for hire, as well as ghillies with their own boats. Ghillies may be hired on a daily basis, all are experienced and in addition to being able to create an interesting days fishing, they provide boats and engines, as well as tackle if required.
