All of this, in the incomparable setting of Alcudia Beach, creating a unique atmosphere of coexistence and a frenetic pace for participants. DEL 23.06.2008 AL 27.06.2008. The 7th World Rapid-Ball Championship is held in Alcudia at Club Tenis Las Palmeras. This is a new sport created in Mallorca, which every year becomes increasingly consolidated as a leading racket sport game. DEL 29.06.2008 AL 29.06.2008. Sant Pere is celebrated in Port d'Alcudia in June. Port d'Alcudia dresses up to enjoy the week celebrations of the Festes de Sant Pere, The Patron Saint of fishermen. Everyday there are plenty of different activities: live concerts, contests, games for the kids, sport contests, and a lot more. On June 29th there's a procession both on land and sea with the statue of the saint. The parade starts at the Esglesia de la Mare de Deu del Carme i Sant Pere carrying along the statue through the streets of Port d'Alcudia. The most touching moment is when the statue is put on board and sails round the Bay followed by hundreds of decorated boats. A great firework puts an end to these marvellous celebrations. Del 01.07.2008 al 02.07.2008 - Just after the Festes de Sant Pere, which ends on June 29th, the next one starts on July 1th. We move from the sea to the mountain, specifically to the hermitage in La Victoria. The celebrations start with a fun run ascending to the hermitage. When the sun goes down the alcudiencs come to lay the tables where they are going to spend the evening and night eating, drinking and dancing. The local traditional groups Sarau Alcudienc and Tacaritx play their music and the alcudiencs dance Ball de bot, a typical dance. And those who don't dance prepare the ron cremat (flambeed rum). On July 2nd at 8'30 a.m. firecrackers are released from the town hall and a parade begins with the Banda de Musica. In the same morning there's a mass at the hermitage with a traditional tribute of bouquets of camomile. Slightly after this act once again music, races and lots of fun flood all over. DEL 25.07.2008 AL 25.07.2008. Sant Jaume, Patron Saint of Alcudia. July 25th is Sant Jaume, the Patron Saint of Alcudia, which is celebrated in style. Festivities start a week before with many live concerts, open-air dances, plays, exhibitions, bullfights and, obviously, religious celebrations. The Triennal del Sant Crist takes place every third year, which is a mass and a deep-rooted procession. This procession dates back to1507. The tradition says that the Sant Crist (Christ saint) sweated blood and water ending a time of drought. The next Triennal will be in the year 2007. In the night of Sant Jaume a firework display near the walls ends up a week of fun. DEL 01.08.2008 AL 31.08.2008. In summer there's a programme called Via Fora to inspire Alcudia's old town culturally. You can go on drama guided tours around the city walls, enjoy many open-air concerts at the old gates or take part in the athletics night race. These activities are related to historical events that happened inside the town walls in the past in our city. During the nights of August an activity cycle called Agost a la fresca (August in the cool) takes place. It has a great variety of activities such as workshops, live concerts, projections and theatre plays. The Roman theatre and the Gothic courtyard in the library Can Torro are the ideal venues for these activities. DEL 24.08.2008 AL 24.08.2008. August: Sant Bartomeu, Via Fora and Agost a la fresca. On August 24th, people thank Sant Bartomeu because the season fruits such as watermelons, peppers or melons are getting ripe. It's also a celebration day in Alcudia, a place where people has always been very grateful to the soil. Fruits are emptied and different figures such as moons, cats, suns and escales de figueral are cut out and drawn in their skin, and a candle is put inside. This way fruits turned into llanternes (lanterns) and lighted up the balls de bot (Mallorcan folk dancing) that used to take place under the fig trees. This ancient celebration resulted in a parade through the streets of the old town. For a long time this ancient tradition disappeared but a group of alcudiencs recovered it a few decades ago. Ever since kids have enjoyed their llanternes as their ancestors did in the past. The iconography has slightly changed though, there are still moons and escales de figueral but there are also many Simpsons and Disney figures and new technologies such as batteries and lighters help if there are wind gusts. However, the same songs are sung: Es sereno ha mort un moix, La lluna i la pruna o Ton pare no te nas and kids sing them enthusiastically. Hundreds of kids get together and parade around illuminating the old town, starting at the La Placeta de les verdures and ending at the town hall with the keenly anticipated balloons and sweets release. DEL 28.08.2008 AL 28.08.2008. For the last several years, the Alcudia City Council has organized the Cursa Nocturna Ronda Murada, a race that passes through the historical centre of Alcudia within its medieval walls. DEL 01.09.2008 AL 21.09.2008. Balearman Internacional Triatlon. In the month of September, hundreds of athletes from all over the world gather in the bay of Alcudia to participate in an event that combines swimming, cycling and running. DEL 06.09.2008 AL 06.09.2008. Alcudia Xtreme Swim Open Water. Each year, the Municipal Sports Council of Alcudia organizes a swim in open water early in September. It starts at the Formentor beach and goes to the Sant Pere beach, crossing the entire bay of Pollenca. This is an average difficulty event with an approximate distance of 7 km. DEL 07.09.2008 AL 07.09.2008. Santa Anna, a horse festival in September. Since time immemorial, on the first Sunday of September the festivity of Mare de Deu de Santa Anna is celebrated in Alcudia, specifically linked to the chapel of Santa Anna, built up in the 13th century and historically linked to horses. During the whole day there are several races and displays. Among them the most traditional ones are the traditional races trot and trot enganxat (hooked trot). This is a very widespread tradition still very popular in Alcudia. DEL 20.09.2008 AL 20.09.2008. Club de Golf Alcanada, located in a beautiful setting next to the sea, organizes the Copa Presidente each year in late September. Any amateur male or female players with a valid licence from the Real Federacion Espanola de Golf can participate in this tournament. DEL 01.10.2008 AL 31.10.2008. On the marvellous fine white sand at Alcudia beach, the COPA PESCADISCO Frisbee tournament has been held the last few years. Every year, over 120 players from all over the world travel to Alcudia to enjoy this event.
