Review of the Pompano Beach Club in the Bermuda Guide (5th edition, copyright 2005 by Ron Charles). Travel writer Ron Charles lists Pompano Beach Club atop his Best Places to Stay section in the most up-to-date edition of his Bermuda Guide, available in bookstores across North America. The following is what Ron Charles wrote about Pompano Beach Club in his Best Places to Stay section: The Pompano Beach Club, Bermuda's best full service casual resort hotel, is among my favorite island getaways in the world, and remains my favorite place to stay in Bermuda. This wonderful medium-sized property offers nine charming pink and white low-rise cottages and a central clubhouse on or near the edge of the bluff which rises up to expose dramatic views of the turquoise colored waters of the Atlantic. Each cottage contains several spacious and comfortable double rooms and stunning suites (many of which can be made to adjoin for family usage) that feature individually controlled reverse cycle air conditioners, large deluxe private bathrooms, Mexican tiled balconies with patio furnishings and panoramic views out to sea, beautiful selection of hardwood and tropical rattan furnishings, king and twin sized Simmons bedding, hair dryers, direct dial telephones, 50 channel satellite-cable televisions, electronic mini-safe systems, either wet bars or mini-refrigerators, hair dryers, am-fm clock radios, steam irons and collapsible ironing boards, comfortable waffled cotton bathrobes, optional VCR units, and large picture windows or sliding French doors that open up unforgettable views of the sea. Tom and Larry Lamb of Boston are the friendly owners managers and have done a wonderful job in converting their father's quaint little fishing lodge into one of the world's most relaxing and laid back beach-side resorts. The recent elongation of their tranquil private pink beach has made Pompano even more desirable for those who love the sand and sea. While I personally start my visits here by hopping on a Suncat motorized floating lounge chair and gliding along their 250 yard long sandbar to reach a beautiful coral reef full of semi-tropical fish, there are a wide variety of other superb facilities to occupy even the most active visitors. The Pompano Beach Club offers a large heated outdoor fresh-water swimming pool, several seaside sun-decks with complimentary lounge chair and sun umbrella service, two piping hot open air sea-view hot tubs, a new oceanfront wading pool, free usage of four all weather and one har-tru tennis courts, a fully equipped health club complete with Lifecycle and Stairmaster, computerized exercise gear and a variable incline treadmill, temporary membership privileges at all of Bermuda's world class golf clubs including the adjacent Robert Trent Jones designed Port Royal Golf Course, a fantastic water-sports center where you can rent all sorts of water-craft and snorkeling gear during high season, on-site scooter and bicycle rental, free use of professional fishing tackle (the chefs here will be glad to cook up your very own catch of the day), express laundry and dry cleaning, available babysitters, breakfast in bed, and much, much more. If there is anything at all that you need to arrange, excursions or day trips, just feel free to ask for advice from either assistant manager David Block or any of the hotel's other cheerful staff members. Dining here is fantastic. Even breakfast is a gastronomic delight, with huge cooked to order American breakfasts served in the clubhouse, or a light healthy continental breakfast sent to your room. Superb evening meals may be enjoyed at the lovely ocean-view Cedar Room restaurant, while hearty lunches are served either al fresco at the seaside terrace or inside the cozy atrium area. Evenings are also a delight with the added bonus of scheduled live entertainment by talented Bermudian musicians and local art shows. The Foc's'le bar and pool-side terrace serve either Velda's or Mervyn's infamous frozen top shelf cocktails at prices that are hard to beat. Guests may also take advantage of the Carousel dine around program that allows them to enjoy gourmet dinners at four other fine Bermuda Collection hotel restaurants. Those here on romantic escapes will be delighted by the incredible sunsets that can be viewed from almost anywhere on the property, including your own room.
