Inverness is a thriving new city and is known as the gateway to the Highlands. It is an ideal base for touring and is easily accessible either by road, train or plane. The city has many fine
restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets and also has a leisure complex,
swimming pool, bowling
centre and cinemas. As well as Inverness Castle the castles of Cawdor, Urquhart, Brodie and Stuart are all within easy reach. For those wishing to sample the finest of Scotland;s Highland Whiskies there are the Glen Ord, Cardhu, Dalwhinnie, Clynelish and Cragganmore distilleries. Loch Ness is one of the most popular places to visit in this part of the Highlands and guided coach
tours are available as are boat
trips. Only 15 miles away in the town of Drumnadrochit is the Loch Ness Exhibition
Centre. Other organised
tours are available such as a coach
trip to Orkney or a boat cruise to watch dolphins. There's lots more to explore around Inverness including Culloden Battlefield, the Clava Cairns, Fort George, Glen Affric, Balnain House, Moniack Wineries, the Black Isle, Aviemore, the Cairngorm mountains and historic towns such as Nairn, Elgin, Beauly, Dingwall and Strathpeffer.
