Yours hosts, Barry, Norma and Peter Twomey have created a friendly, informal and unique atmosphere to help you relax and unwind in this peaceful, idyllic setting in Ireland's most southerly county. The Twomey family have been welcoming guests for over thirty years. Value, warmth and traditional Irish hospitality, in spacious and tastefully furnished surroundings, will ensure your holiday is both a restful and memorable experience. Enjoy the winding scenic approach to Crosshaven as it skirts along the beautiful and historic Drake's Pool, which dates back to 1580 when Sir Francis Drake was reputed to have sought shelter in the estuary from the Spaniards. Today the village is a hub of maritime activity with modern marinas and boatyards contributing to the ever changing seascapes which make Crosshaven so distinctly different. Camden Fort, situated on the outskirts of the village, is worth a visit with its breathtaking views of Cork Harbour and Cobh, the last port of call for the ill-fated Titanic. Sandy beaches and secluded coves, for an afternoon bathe or an evening stroll, are a short drive from the hotel. Outdoor activities in the vicinity include woodland walks, horse riding, cycling, golf, fishing, sailing and tennis. Whispering Pines is ideally situated as a base for touring the Cork/Kerry area - Ireland's premier tourist region. Whispering Pines specialises in inclusive angling holidays. Packages include 7 nights dinner, bed breakfast, 6 days angling and return transfers to Cork Airport. You can also stay for shorter periods and we would be delighted to offer you a package price to suit your requirements. Weekly packages from 605 per person. We fish at depths between 20 and 60 metres and the seabed is predominantly rock. The most common species are ling, Pollack and Conger, both on reefs and wrecks. A 20lb - 30lb class rod should be used with a multiplying reel. We recommend a single 7/0 hook due to the rocky nature of the seabed and lead weights between 300-400 grammes. Shark fishing commences from mid June until mid September and we suggest you use a 30lb - 50lb class rod coupled with a 6/0 multiplying reel loaded with at least 250 metres of 30 kilo line. General drifting can produce a wide variety of fish. (Up to 18 species have been landed in one day) Pollock fishing is very good sport with a light spinning rod, fixed spool reel and a Mr Twister or jelly worm type bait. Our three 43-foot, twin engined aquastars (25 knot), which operate from April to October, have been customised to our specifications, with particular attention being paid to fishing space, comfort and speed. Our experienced skippers John, Gareth and Brian are always on hand to give advice and help to both novice and skilled anglers alike. All vessels are licensed and have been finished to a very high standard and are equipped with the latest navigation, fish finding and safety equipment. Please complete the form below if you would like to receive details of our special offers during the year. Your details will be strictly confidential and will not be provided to a third party. Special Offers I prefer mailing in: 2006 was a busy season for Whispering Pines. Our skippers Gareth, John and Jimmy proved very successful. The pollack fishing was disappointing, however, there was a noticeable improvement in the shark fishing with sharks being caught from early July until the end of August. Unfortunately the weather in September was disappointing. We had alot of wind throughout the month which made fishing conditions very difficult. On a more positive note we fished more wrecks this summer with some great results. We landed some nice specimen and we also caught ray in the harbour with some over 20lbs. The most species caught in one day this year was 19. Our smoking room with open log fire was a great success so much so that we will have to spend the winter chopping timber! We have also decided to extend the deadline for the fishing competition. Please send any quality photographs by email or post before the 31st January 2006. As you know, the prize is a voucher to the value of 500 so it is certainly worth the effort dont you think!! Our new boat next will be operating during summer for harbour cruises and excursions and we will be promoting an activity package which will consist of 3 or 4 nights accommodation with meals and 3 activities. The activities will be angling, sea safari and golf. The program will be an all inclusive price and is geared to the incentive market and would also suit a mixed group who do not necessarily want to fish every day. Please contact us for further details. Finally we are exhibiting at the Visma in Rotterdam from the 29th March until the 1st April 2007.
