Salamanca was named on a very deserved way City Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, showing its monumental importance that made it receives nicknames such as the Little Rome. Besides that it has an unique personality marked by its history and above all its University. PLAZA MAYOR: It is a beautiful space porticado, that constitute the Center of Salamanca's life. It was built according to the plains and ideas of Alberto de Churriguera, in the XVIII century. UNIVERSITY: Situated in the Patio de Escolas, where we can find the statue of Fray Luis of Leon, the building of Reitorado, the antique Study Hospital and the Minor Schools. Its construction began in 1415. The most impressive of this building is its plateresca facade and its peculiar decoration. Inside we find a beautiful cloister, from which gives access to the classes, in which the one that is more impressive is the one that belongs to Fray Luis of Leon, because its conserved exactly how it was in the time of this bright professor. The building has the Salmantine Universities Library (closed to the public), that keeps an important collection of codices, incunables and manuscripts. THE NEW CATHEDRAL : It is one of the most ultimate works of Gothic. The entire exterior is abundantly decorated with pictures and carvings, heraldic and ornamental grounds of a diverse nature. The interior impresses by its size and the height of their ships, covered by starred abobodas. THE OLD CATHEDRAL : Reminds on its outside the Zamora's cathedral, especially the original gallonada dome. It is a romantic-style cathedral, which was built between centuries XII and XIII. It is completely hidden in the north by the New Cathedral. There are important set of the great tombs of centuries XII-XV, and the wonderful altarpiece of the altar mayor. CONVENT OF SAN ESTEBAN: Its facade constitutes an authentic filigree, decorated in an exuberant way with diverse reasons: medallions, saints statuettes... But San Esteban is much more: the King's cloister, the Teologists' Pantheon, the museum and the church. THE SHELLS HOUSE: It is a very original, which combines Gothic, Renaissance and mudejares elements, being the most fascinating its decoration with hundreds of shells, whose explanation is that its owner was a member of the Order of Santiago. We must also highlight its interior courtyard, which is a prodigy of beauty. Currently, the building was converted into a public library, which account, also with a room for exhibitions. PALACE OF ANAYA: It is a beautiful building preceded by a wide staircase and rematado by a triangular front supported by four columns. Inside, we find ourselves with a charming courtyard formed by two stories that do not support itself with arcos but with columns and a staircase which leads to the second floor, where there is a bust of Don Miguel de Unamuno. Currently hosts the classes, and departments of the Faculty of Philology and Annex building of Hospitality. CLERECIA: Not only the church has this name but also the huge building that now hosts the Pontifical University. The most impressive is their colossal Baroque facade, including the two towers. Within the building's current Pontifical University, it is really worth visiting its Baroque yard, of great beauty, the work of Garcia de Quinones. CONVENTO DAS DUENAS: The most deployable is its cloister, with its alicatada door in the most pure Mudejar style. This is a Renaissance cloister, with two levels of galleries, and is truly unique in the world on its way pentagonal. The most significant is, however, the richness and variety of sculptural capiteles and medallions. THE LIS HOUSE: House in pure modernist style, with its characteristic materials: iron and crystal emplomado. It's very surprising inside the plateresca and gothic city of Salamanca. There are also the Museum of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and the Foundation Manuel Ramos Andrade. Other interesting monuments are: The College of Ireland, the Convent of Calatrava, the Convent of Ursulas, the House of Deaths, the Palace of Salina, the Palace of Monterrey, the Palace of Orellana, the House Museum of Unamuno, the City Hall, the House of Santa Teresa, the Puente Romano,... Sierra de Francia: It extends from east to west by the south of the province to the limits of Las Hurdes cacerenas. It is a very sharp, sierra full of small valleys of castanheiras, sobreiros, and rich in cherry, vineyards and garden products. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Salamanca, for its many attractive landscape, its rich vegetation and tipismo for its architecture and its people: The mountain of France: It is one of the highest shares of the mountain. At the top there is a historic and spectacular viewpoint from which you can see the entire region, large parts of the province of Salamanca and the neighboring areas of Caceres and Portugal. There is a church, a convent, several chapels and a hostel for pilgrims. La Alberca: It is a beautiful town located on the feet of Mount of France, in the midst of an exuberant vegetation. His whole countryside was declared Monument Historical and Artistic already in 1940, for the originality of their building, the layout of its cobbled streets and a good state of conservation of this collection. Miranda de Castanar: It is a precious town declared Joint Artistic History in 1973. It has a charming square, where the emphasis is in his Castle of the fourteenth century, and a maze of medieval streets, which is a living example of its architecture mountain: rustic and narrow streets with houses of stone with desks and wood entramados. It was also held in very good condition the Plaza de Toros, rectangular, and the wall, which nearly all the town and has four doors. Alba de Tormes: It is a town of rich and historical past. Are really significant its historical made: it is the origin of the Alba's house, and where Santa Teresa de Jesus, died in 1582. It is here the Carmelita da Anunciacion Convent, where are the the tombs and relics of the Sant. Other interesting points are the church of Santiago; the remains of the palace-castle of the Dukes of Alba; the Torreon of Armeria; the basilica (unfinished), which is a gigantic neogotic building; the City Hall in the Plaza Mayor, and the church of San Juan, romanico-mozarabe, declared of Interest Historical-Artistic. Ciudad Rodrigo: It is located just 30 Km. of neighboring Portugal, is a hill on the river Agueda. It has a wall of 2250 m. of perimeter very well preserved, the Castel, today known as Tourism Stopper, the Cathedral, which has Romanesque and Gothic elements, in addition to many palaces and mansions. Arribes del Duero: This comarca begins in the center of Villarino dos Aires and discorre with the Duero till its entrance in Portugal in Vega Terron. It is one of the unevenness of the ground in direction to the river, atrapado between granites and pizarras. These falls can reach up to 400 m. This area has specials characteristics, which occur in climate and vegetation. Welcomes, moreover, a rich and abundant birds, vultures, eagles and royal owls, among others.
