KAMBOS - CHIOS ISLAND. Kambos area is situated at the south part of Chios town, near the aiport, and it is 7 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide. it's a plane surrounded by low hills with two main torrents and many small streams crossing its gardens. It is divided in estates of 2,5 acre each, with a complex grid of narrow alleys surrounded by high stone walls. The main road connecting the town with the southern part of the island passes through Kampos area. By the surrounding hills one can see the green sea of orange, tangerine and citrus trees along with tufts of olive and linden trees. You can take a walk through the quiet paths and admire the tall walls, made of local (thimianusiko) stone, surrounding houses and gardens. Marvel at the grand gates and the beautiful buildings, see the tops of citrus trees or the giant pine trees reaching above the walls, listen to the song of the water flowing through the orchard and enjoy the incredible smells pouring out of it in spring!
