Renesse is originally a ring village from the early 1200s. The Guesthouse de Herberg Anno 1785 was first built as a Gentlemans farm (where the opkamer still originates that we use as breakfast room). For a long time it was one of the few buildings on the Korte Reke, though this refers to two hundred years ago. The guesthouse is situated opposite the Jacobs church which was built in 1458. The building was soon used as a doctors practice and retained this purpose until around the time of the flood crisis in 1953 when 11 families were housed here. The then owner found this a lucrative pursuit and the guesthouse was begun. It is also situated on the pilgrimage route to Santiago and on the E9 ( Walking route) which stretches from Portugal to the Baltic states. Your stay is based on bed and breakfast. Behind the guesthouse we offer parking for your bicycle or motorcycle. The guesthouse is entirely smoke free. The guesthouse is 200 metres from the where you can park your car in a well lit area free of charge. Free buses depart from here to all parts of the island.

Zeeland, green-blue oasis with a golden edge and the most hours of sun in the Netherlands! Life on the water is multi-faceted, life on land is richly varied. Everywhere the excitement of history and culture can be felt. In monumental towns, picturesque villages, surprising museums, fun attractions, events and... not to be forgotten, the local delicacies! Renesse is a village on Schouwen-Duiveland, the most northerly island of Zeeland. This is composed of four islands: Schouwen, Duiveland, Dreischor and Bommenede. It has kilometres of wide beaches and a unique unspoilt dune area. The seawater in Renesse is among the cleanest on the Dutch coast. Furthermore it is known for the countless attractions such as the Delta works with Waterland Neeltje Jans, Plan Tureluur on the south side of the island, National Monument Flood Crisis 1953 in Ouwerkerk, Boswachterij Westerschouwen etc. Schouwen-Duiveland is in the top 10 of the Dutch monument municipalities, this is partly because the island was separated quite late making demolition and/or new building a costly activity. Demolition and clearance also cost a lot in the past, this was beyond the scope of the island municipalities, by which means many monuments remained preserved. The many villages on the island have a lot of (national) monuments that are certainly worth a visit.
