safe is it? As with anywhere else in the world, crime does occur. However, Barbados is still one of the
safest destinations in the World. You can feel comfortable whether you are walking in the vicinity of the hotel or exploring the Island, however, please exercise good judgement (i.e. do not walk around with excessive jewellery or expose your money, do not walk alone at night, especially in isolated areas etc.) At the hotel, we remind you that in-
room safes have been provided free of charge for you to store your valuables.
Safety deposit boxes are also available at Reception. Can you swim at Maxwell Beach? Yes. Bougainvillea sits on one of the most beautiful beaches in Barbados. Traditionally, the West Coast of the Island enjoys calm waters, while the South Coast waters are a bit more lively - great for watersports. While there may be occasions when it is necessary for red flags to be posted to discourage swimming, most days the waters are quite calm and swimming is perfectly
safe - even for children (supervised). Can I get an ocean view
room? Bougainvillea does not advertise or sell
rooms by view, with the exception of the
two bedroom beachfront luxury
suite. While most of the
rooms do have an ocean view, some offer a combination view of
pools,
gardens and/or ocean. We will do our utmost to honour requests but cannot guarantee view requests. Can I get two double beds? With the exception of a small number of
deluxe one-bedroom suites, which have two double beds, all of the
rooms have king or queen size beds. If two double beds are requested, we will do our best to honour the request, but it cannot be guaranteed because the number of
rooms is so limited. Is there any alternative to a pull-out sofa? While the pull-out sofas are quite comfortable, if you prefer not to use it, you do have the option of requesting a roll-away bed. The roll-away is a single bed, which is easily comparable in comfort to a typical bed. Are there mosquitoes? This is the tropics and it is impossible to come to the Caribbean and not see any sign of insect life. Mosquitoes are not prevalent but can be attracted to visitors. We would be happy to spray your
room if any problems arise, but as the hotel is Green Globe certified, we try to avoid the use of insecticides and aerosol sprays. We recommend that you use a mosquito repellent if necessary. Are pets allowed? Sorry - no pets allowed. What is the Voltage? 110 V - 50 cycle. Are adapters available? Adaptors can be borrowed from Reception. I am paying by credit card, in what currency will the payment be taken? The amount will be taken in Barbados dollars with a currency conversion rate of $1.98 to the US dollar. Your credit card statement will reflect the equivalent amount in your local currency at the current rate of trading. Can you exchange money at the hotel? Yes. Currency can be exchanged at Reception between 7 am and 5 pm daily. What currency do you use? Barbados Dollars is the national currency, but US dollars (not US coins) are also accepted island wide. Note however it is against the law to issue US dollars. This must be done at a
bank or at the

Below will give you the current weather - click for a 5-day forecast. Should I be worried about hurricanes? Hurricanes usually avoid Barbados. They arise off the African Coast and head to the Caribbean, swinging north about 100 miles from Barbados. The pattern is reasonably consistent as hurricanes tend to bounce from one land mass to the next and Barbados is somewhat separate from the Caribbean island chain. This does not of course make us immune, but the last time Barbados suffered a direct hit was in 1955. Does the hotel take a
security deposit?...
Patricia Stone - Cambridgeshire, England, U.K. I have just returned from my visit to Barbados, which was my first holiday alone and I believe I picked the best place in the world to do it. Beautiful Island, extremely friendly and welcoming people, glorious sunshine and beaches to relax on or activities to participate in, but best of all the Bougainvillea Beach Resort. Excellent position right on Maxwell beach, spacious, clean
apartment, lovely
pools and
restaurants, and the most friendly, helpful staff I have met anywhere - my every need was accommodated! I will definitely be returning as soon as I can. Peter and Joanne Varley - Whitby, Ontario, Canada. We have just returned from a fantastic stay at the Bougainvillea Resort in Barbados. This was our second stay at the resort and this time we traveled with our dear friends in
celebration of our 50th birthdays. From the moment we stepped out of the
airport shuttle to open welcoming arms from the on duty manager, our every need was met. You will not find another resort on the island that has so many friendly, outgoing, genuine staff who truly just want to make your stay an enjoyable one. The
rooms,
pools, beach, Kim at the front who always made sure we had a cab and a good laugh, are all second to none. We look forward to our next visit and will look nowhere further than the Bougainvillea Resort. We ran into a lady who was back for her 19th stay. That says it all. Thank you to all of you. Richard and Cheryl McCarthy - Ottawa, Canada. Our stay at the Bougainvillea Resort was an experience we will never forget. We met so many nice people. Our friends Bill and April who we hooked up with. Lorne and Paulette who go there every year. The food, the
drinks, the
rooms bright and cheerful and spotlessly clean, the beautiful beach, and of course the friendly staff of the hotel. Was nice that our daughter Meghan came with us. Hope to be back some day soon. Erika Swanson Joshua Walther - Boston, USA. My boyfriend and I just returned home from a fabulous vacation at the Bougainvillea. We were pleasantly surprised at the
beauty of the resort and the friendliness of the staff and locals. Everything is well kept and very clean; the facilities and amenities are perfect ~
rooms,
pools, swim-up
bar,
restaurants, beach front views, water sports, etc. The resort is in a great location - easily accessible to great
restaurants, duty-free shopping, and other attractions. The activities
desk is an added bonus, with all
tours providing transportation with direct pick-up and drop-off from the resort lobby. We went on a catamaran/snorkel adventure, Island Safari ATV
tour of the island, and saw the Bajan Rhythm and Roots show. Everything was fantastic! Even with experiencing the rain and wind from Hurricane Dean on Thursday night and Friday, we still had a wonderful time. We will definitely be visiting Barbados and the Bougainvillea again soon! :-). Susan Ayinde - Dublin, Ireland. I traveled alone to Barbados and stayed at Bougainvillea resort. I made wonderful friends and the hotel is the best... great for families. The staff made me very welcome and the
pool bar staff are amazing. I laughed every day and they make a mean rum punch. Will see them all again next year. Can't wait Fred Sasha Perry - Philadelphia, USA. Our
wedding was wonderful! The
wedding coordinator Heather was excellent! The back drop of the ocean and beautiful island scenery was the best! I couldnt ask for more! The
room was beautiful. Sitting on the beach and listening to the steel pan playing was so relaxing! We are going to return this year 2007 for sure! Sal Miriam Klein - Ontario, Canada. My husband I just returned to Canada (sadly) to a great deal of snow. We had a wonderful holiday at the Bougainvillea and special thanks to Eurita, Margarite, Ray Lisa! You made our stay more enjoyable. Everyone seemed very hospitable it was
safe. The grocery store was close by in Worthing which made it convenient. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful stay. Just a word of caution to anyone traveling with any special needs; there are no elevators so a request for main floor would be necessary. Stephanie Mandrapilias Paolo Abate - Ontario, Canada. The Bougainvillea Resort was wonderful. Paolo and myself have never stayed at such a beautiful and well-kept resort. The service was impeccable, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The staff were very friendly and we felt
safe throughout our entire vacation. The food at the resort was great - the selection for
lunch and
dinner was abundant. We both do not have one negative thing to say about the resort or the island and are recommending it to all of our family and friends!!! The
trip will stay in our memories forever and we hope that we will be able to visit Barbados again in the future. Suzanne and Richard Bryson - Pickering, Ontario/Port Charlotte, FL. My husband and I stayed at the Bougainvillea resort over Christmas 2006 - We were thrilled with the accommodations. Our
room was bright and cheerful and spotlessly clean. After turning off the A/C each morning, the
room was still wonderfully cool late in the afternoon. We enjoyed the
restaurants very much and sampled many different fish dishes, all delicious. It is hard to express how friendly and eager to please were the staff, from the front
desk to housekeeping to
restaurant wait staff. We will definitely be back to Barbados and, without a doubt, to the Bougainvillea. Marjory and Sam Barone - Ontario, Canada. We found a piece of paradise right in the heart of Barbados. We stayed at the Bougainvillea Resort in October 2004 and were married on the island. From the moment we arrived we were surrounded by
beauty and tranquility. It was magical. The flowers were in abundance so, too were the smiles. The pictures do not do the resort justice its even more beautiful in person. The staff couldnt do enough for us. They are definitely good ambassadors for the hotel (and Barbados too). The food was great and the entire complex was squeaky clean. Everything was well-organized. Its a great place for families and newlyweds alike. Theres so much to do and see. You never have to leave the place if you want to just relax. However, everything is so accessible and all the
tour companies pick you up and return you back to the resort. We loved it so much that we returned in October 2005 for our first
wedding anniversary. All of the staff remembered us and we were made so welcome. It was like coming home. We ended up buying a time-share at the Bougainvillea so we will be returning for many years to come. On a scale of 1 10 wed have to rate them at 15! We are looking forward to visit number 3 in October and bringing some family members so they too can have a taste of paradise. Mr Adam Mrs Sara Wright - Doncaster, England. My husband I were married on 07/11/05 overlooking the sea at the Bougainvillea Resort. We can't put into words how perfect our day was, it was more that we could have dreamed of thanks to Heather (who's a superstar) the lovely vicar, photographer
video guys its a day we'll never ever forget. The resort is outstanding we've never met such helpful people anywhere can't wait for our next visit.
