The East Coast Trail runs along the east coast of the Avalon Penninsula in the province of Newfoundland, Canada. The hiking trail starts in St. John's at Fort Amherst and continues south to Fermuse. There are many access points to the East Coast Trail (trail heads). This is where you can start or quit your hike and this is where we drop you off or pick you up once you have finished your day hike. This makes hiking accessable to experienced hikers or leisure hikers. With the help of hiking maps you can pick the hiking trails you feel comfortable walking on or you can do the whole East Coast Trail from beginning to end. The Walkabout Hiking Package. You are ready for the most challenging and the most beautiful hike of the East Coast Trail. Start at Shoal Bay Road and hike to Bay Bulls. See the Spout, a sea-driven fresh water geyser, and the breathtaking scenery. It's a challenging trail, but worth every step. East Coast Trail Map 5 6 Day 6: Pick a trail. There are lots of short trails to pick from. Bay Bulls to Witless Bay is a 2 - 4 hour. Or La Manche to Tors Cove, a 3 hour hike. La Manche trail leads you across a huge suspension bridge. In 1966 a severe winter storm washed out the flakes and the bridge. The village was evacuated and the people were resettled. You can still see the remains of the homes. The new bridge was built in 1999, and is now part of the trail. Or if your into canoeing you can try your luck on catching a few trout in Tors Cove Pond. Day 7: Hike from Calvert to Ferryland. The colony of Avalon. Time for a rest and time for a change. Visit the working archaeologist in Ferryland as they uncover what life was like more then 350 years ago in a 17th Century colony. Have a lemonade at the Lighthouse Picnic. It's one of the most interesting days you'll have. East Coast Trail Map 13 14 Day 8: Flamber Head Path You need a another challenge. Flamber Head Path takes you from La Manche to Brigus South. This is a 6 to 9 hour hike. Brigus is a beautiful spot. Take a look at the graveyard - there are tombstones dating back 1798. East Coast Trail Map 10 Day 9: Today is your last day of hiking. Brigus Head to Admirals Cove is the perfect hike to finish off the trip. It's about a 3 hour hike, check map 11. A lovely way to say fare well. After your breakfast Bill will drive you to St. John's. If you are flying out, he will take you to the air port or maybe you want to stay in St. John's for a few days.
