It's right on the water (creating a refreshing breeze and the soothing sound of the breaking surf). The food was great and moderately priced. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to make sure my needs were met and that I got to the ferry on time. The room I had was spacious, clean, had a color t.v., small fridge, cold bottled water dispenser, spacious bathroom with hot water in the shower. I was fortunate enough to find that the Coco Pando had an available room, and the fact that the resort was on the beach was a huge bonus. It was quiet when I checked in, so it seemed as if the entire staff was there to make sure that I had everything that I needed. I went into the restaurant and ordered lunch at the bar, and had a very pleasant conversation with the new manager. I had enjoyed my lunch at the Iguana enough to give it a try for dinner. I ordered shrimp with garlic pasta, and it was phenomenal. The peppers and onions were lightly sauted and added a wonderful flavor, and the pasta was literally covered in shrimp. The staff was courteous, helpful, and friendly. They made me feel like a welcome guest, and that they were there to make sure that my stay was as enjoyable as possible. We were born and raised in Honduras but had not been back for decades. Neither of us were sure of how it would be to return. When Omar picked up Rachel at the airport, they found out they were the same age and had been born in the same La Ceiba hospital. From that point on we were made a part of the Coco Pando familia. I arrived later in the evening, thinking the Iguana Bar would be closed. But no! Omar was waiting for me at the airport (my flight was an hour late) and dropped me off at the room, telling me to go up on deck. There, Bruce was kindly waiting and immediately ordered drinks for me. So there I sat with my sister and the some of the staff reminiscing about Honduras. A startlingly sweet reception to our 1st country. Moreover, I was welcomed by the sound of the night sea waves washing up just off the veranda and the stars spangled overhead like heavenly jewels. After traveling all day, tired and frazzled, I fell in love with the thatched roof, the open bar seating, the sense of no-hurry; restfulness. In the morning, my sister and I were first in line for coffee and breakfast. Belkin and Suani provided us with prompt, warm service.... Upon our arrival back in La Ceiba, before returning to the US, we enjoyed another round of good service, and exquisite meals. Bruce, the wry chef with a quiet sense of humor, prepared both fish and meat dishes in a tasty full fashion. It felt like I was being dined by a ship's captain. I can't think of a better rustic but comfortable, easy-going resort to either drop in or to stay at while visiting the Ceiba area. Bruce and Omar share a vast knowledgeable network regarding key people, agents, places, and things to do. Thank you Omar, Bruce, Belkin, Carol, Suani, and the others who warmly re-integrated Rachel and myself back into Honduran culture.
