Pearl of the Bulgarian Riviera. Varna City Centre Flats. Varna is the pearl of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is the second city after the capital Sofia, located on the famous Varnenski Gulf known since the antiquity. The place was inhabited since the prehistoric period and there are signs of a Thracian village. The city was created by the ancient Greeks who founded in the VI century BC a colony named Odessos. The colony was rich with flourishing commerce and crafts. Under the Romans, the city plan and canalization were improved. The following Byzantine rulers also maintained the city as an important fortress on the Black Sea coast. During the VI century DC the city was ruined by the Avares invasions, tribes coming from the North. After the destruction, at the location of ancient Odessos appeared a new city wearing a new name- Varna.
