Patzcuaro is the jewel of the colonial cities. It is small and friendly. During the 16th century it was the capital of the state of Michoacan thanks to Don Vasco de Quiroga the great humanitarian defender of indigenous rights. Patzcuaro perhaps best represents the fusion of two cultures, Mexican and Spanish. Founded long before the Spanish conquest by the Purepecha Indians, Patzcuaro was established as the religious
center where the temples were constructed, for that reason its name means in the Purepecha language doorway to heaven. The colorful world of folk art, the folklore, the
celebrations, the religious traditions and the delightful flavors of its
cuisine are some of the marvels awaiting the traveler. Patzcuaro is also the gateway to the lake area with its many attractions to discover and enjoy. La Casa Encantada is located in the heart of Patzcuaro, just one-half block away from the main plaza (Plaza Grande) or Plaza Don Vasco de Quiroga. Patzcuaro is situated 4 hours west of Mexico City (by car or bus) and four hours east of Guadalajara. We are one hour from Morelia and one 1/2 hours from the Morelia
airport. Read unbiased opinions about visit our guide online. Arturo Pimentel Ramos. Featured Member Bed and
