Some excerpts from the website of Queen of Pieterburen that might be useful
Queen Rosanna, from Sweden, was staying in Pieterburen, on the 19th of juli 2006, at the Queen of Pieterburen. A bed and breakfast, place to sleep, holiday for all ages, an experience never to forget! Staying the night in this bed and breakfast (a place for young and old), be a fairytail Queen or King yourself, this bed and breakfast is full with theatre-cloths, wigs, crowns etc. Everybody comes along, for walking the Pieterpath, for a mudwalk on the bottom of the see, or just for a nice holiday, sleeping in the silence of the high north of the Netherlands, for shopping in Groningen, for a daytrip to Schiermonnikoog, stay the night in a bed of a Prinses! For a night, a weekend, a midweek, a week or even longer or only for a workshop, that's also possible. A hotel, a pension? No we name it still a bed and breakfast, for we want to give you that personal attention and the old-fashioned feeling that you really stay with us and you’re here for a nice visit. Don't forget the breakfast with cakes! That's only thinkable in the most amusing bed and breakfast of the Netherlands.
Dressed up as a Prinses or a policeman? You'll be singing and acting with the Queen herself! Painting/creative week/weekend or midweek Material is available, you'll be making your own work of art under the leadership of. Astrid van Roze, the Queen herself. Let the entourage inspire you, the silly atributes, the shiny colours of the Palace. To be short, you'll be surprised of what you can do. This is for starters as well as for advanced. Also Art-teachers with their pupils: You're welcome to stay and enjoy the wide landscapes of Groningen. Material is available! (paper, paint etc.) Sporting week/weekend or midweek We arrange horseridinglessons, a bikingtour and an evening sauna Should that be not enough you can do a mudwalk around the Waddensea! And all our healthy dinners in the Palace, in the sauna and in one of the restaurants we have in Pieterburen. Relax/beauty arrangement Enjoy your breakfast in bed, while you hear the sound of the hardworking birds outside, making up their love-nests, a good walk around the village, along all the antique and curiosa shops we have in Pieterburen. go for a swim in the lovely hot swimmingpool in the afternoon and afterwards get your bots down in the lazy chairs in the beautiful garden of the Queen and see her precious English countrygarden-statues-collection, while the Queen is giving you a warm shoulder and neck-massage. Watching a good thriller from the Queens movie-library, have a goodnightsleep and a fresh start the next morning!
What to do in Pieterburen?? Mudwalking. Mud walking is an exciting and adventurous way to become acquainted with a unique nature reserve, the Wadden Sea, which is the largest continuous national park in Europe. Mud walking on the bottom of the Wadden Sea is possible because the shallows fall dry at low tide. The shallows consist of sandbanks, criss-crossed with trenches and gullies. If you like farmhouses, you can find very old ones and they made many routes along the beautiful little villages, they'll bring you back in time, ages ago Smell the fields in springtime and count the various green colours in the fields... or take walk in the oldest botanic garden from Holland here in Pieterburen Domies Toen. Then Het Pieterpad( the path of Pieter), It isn't as many of you(me too) think a very old pelgrimroute No it was an idea of two older ladies (Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma en Bertje Jens)in the periode between 1975 en 1981... The ladies thought: Well Holland should have a long walkingroute, as many countries have already for ages and ages... and they walked from the north tom the south of Holland. And if your not tired after walking Holland, you can walk further from The Sint Pietersberg (The Mountain of Saint Pieter, that's why they call it the Path of Pieter) to the Mediteranian (it's called the GR 5).
