What to do in Pieterburen?? Mudwalking. Mud walking is an exciting and adventurous way to become acquainted with a unique nature reserve, the Wadden Sea, which is the largest continuous national park in Europe. Mud walking on the bottom of the Wadden Sea is possible because the shallows fall dry at low tide. The shallows consist of sandbanks, criss-crossed with trenches and gullies. Walking: Fantastic to take walk in the provence of Groningen. If you like farmhouses, you can find very old ones and they made many routes along the beautiful little villages, they'll bring you back in time, ages ago Smell the fields in springtime and count the various green colours in the fields... or take walk in the oldest botanic garden from Holland here in Pieterburen Domies Toen. Then Het Pieterpad( the path of Pieter), It isn't as many of you(me too) think a very old pelgrimroute No it was an idea of two older ladies (Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma en Bertje Jens)in the periode between 1975 en 1981... The ladies thought: Well Holland should have a long walkingroute, as many countries have already for ages and ages... and they walked from the north tom the south of Holland. And if your not tired after walking Holland, you can walk further from The Sint Pietersberg (The Mountain of Saint Pieter, that's why they call it the Path of Pieter) to the Mediteranian (it's called the GR 5). Daytrip to Schiermonnikoog or Ameland. With the ferries from Lauwersoog (for Schier) and Holwerd(Ameland) so closeby, 18 and 30 kilometers is it easy to make a daytrip to one of these gorgeous islands with your bed and breakfast in Pieterburen as a homebase. Zeilen/surfen: Met het Lauwersmeer om de hoek en het Paterswoldse~ Leekster~ en Zuidlaardermeer ietsjes verder heb je al vier verschillende plekken waar je prima kan zeilen en ook surfen. Vogels kijken: Klik hier voor een mooie duidelijke site! Kanoen: Er zijn hier verschillende plekken waar je kano's kan huren, ik vertel u graag waar, kanoen door de maren van de Marne. Heerlijke rustige fietspaden liggen door het Hogeland, u komt niemand tegen onderweg, geen geraas van auto's, alleen stilte en hier en daar het geluid van een loeiende koe Wandelen: Prachtig is het hier om te wandeling te maken langs de boerderijen, over de schelpenpaadjes, de weilanden, over de dijk de verse geur te ruiken van en verschillende kleuren groen te tellen of door de oudste botanische tuin van Nederland rond te lopen, Domies Toen Het Pieterpad begint hier en gaat helemaal naar Maastricht Het Pieterpad: Het is niet zoals velen denken(ook ik) dat het Pieterpad een oude pelgrimstocht is, nee het was een idee van twee hoogbejaarde dames (Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma en Bertje Jens) in de periode van 1975 en 1981... Het Pieterpad is ontstaan vanuit het verlangen om ook in Nederland een wandelroute tot stand te brengen, die vergelijkbaar zou zijn met de lange doorgaande wandelroutes, zoals die elders in Europa al veel langer bestaan. Gezien de vrij geringe grootte van ons eigen land lag het van het begin af aan in de bedoeling dan ook maar helemaal van het noorden naar het zuiden te gaan. Het werd zodoende de verbinding van Pieterburen aan de Groninger waddenkust naar de Sint-Pietersberg bij Maastricht. Vandaar de naam het Pieterpad. Degenen die er niet genoeg van kunnen krijgen, vinden op de Sint-Pietersberg aansluiting met de GR 5, die desgewenst tot de Middellandse Zee kan worden gevolgd. Marum: Bij de kerk in Marum is het startpunt van het. Niebert: En bij de kerk in Niebert start het. Een jonker neemt u tijdens een wandeling door de omgeving mee op een reis door zijn leven.
