It is not that far to Gjógv. But a stay at Gjáargarđur is far from your everyday life. When the family needs a few days' vacation, when the company is holding a meeting, when the group is to be united as a close-knit team, or when you have a big celebration to throw, Gjáargarđur is the perfect place. Gjáargarđur is not only one of the most beautiful guesthouses in the Faroes - it is also situated in remarkably beautiful nature. Here you find both good service and all the necessary facilities for almost any occasion. In this cosy, peaceful and beautiful environment, the days are all yours. Gjaargardur has a selection of accommodation options. There are double rooms, family rooms as well as Bed and Breakfast in boxbeds. In short, Gjaargardur is for everyone. Although there are several storeys, disabled people are able to move easily around Gjáargarđur. There is outside access to every storey and the doorsteps are designed to facilitate wheelchair access throughout the building.
At Gjaargardur, there are 25 light and pleasant double rooms. All rooms can take an extra bed as well. Smoking is not permitted in any of the rooms. In addition, there are 10 viking-style alcoves in Roykstovan on 4th floor. They are sold as bed and breakfast accommodation. These share toilet and shower. Recently an extension was added with luxurious rooms each with, a combined living - and bedroom and a bathroom, plus internet and an electric kettle. A small paradise where family, friends or neighbours can enjoy each other’s company, Smoking is not permitted in any of the rooms.
The meeting room is on the second floor of Gjaargardur with a fantastic view overlooking the village, the ‘Deeps' and Kallsoy island. The room is furnished with all kinds of facilities, e.g. video projector, overhead projector, screen, whiteboard and wireless internet connection. The second floor room is well suited for meetings with up to 18 participants. Larger meetings may be held in Roykstovan, which accommodates 80 people. Roykstovan at Gjaargardur is excellent for parties for up to 90 people. Gjaargardur also provides food for the parties. If booked well in advance, we can offer accommodation for up to 70 people in connection with parties. The Roykstovan is on the third floor of Gjaargardur. In the basement of Gjáargarđur is a room for activities and play, featuring e.g. table tennis. There is also a solarium.
The village Gjógv is the northernmost village on Eysturoy and is situated 67 kilometres (40 miles) from Tórshavn. The road leads trough 10 villages and will take you over the bridge that connects the two largest islands Streymoy and Eysturoy. Gjógv has a grand scenery. The name derives from its harbour (gjógv - gorge). The 400 years old village Gjógv has about 60 inhibitants. The school was built from boulders in 1884. Gjógv has its own church built in 1929.
