Portland House Guest Accommodation situated in The Wye Valley. We have off street
parking and one
parking space designated for the disabled. Portland House is an impressive dwelling dating, in some part, back to the 17th century, and situated close to the border between England and Wales in the picturesque Wye Valley. We have undertaken an extensive refurbishment programme, restoring a considerable part of our beautiful house and
garden to an excellent standard of award winning accommodation. A beautiful slate floor has been installed in the front and rear halls and both the
lounge and
dining room have been sympathetically renovated. We believe this is why we have been selected for inclusion in two publications both entitled Best B and Bs in the UK, one published by the AA, the other by Worldwide Altas. co.uk. We offer guests the use of the very comfortable and spacious
lounge in which to relax watch
satellite television or maybe enjoy a
game of chess, and it's especially cosy in the winter with a log fire. The House was converted from a private dwelling to a guest house in the 1970s. The house has a wealth of character and charm - not overly large but spacious enough for our guests to feel relaxed and comfortable. The House has an interesting history. It was once part of a much larger establishment and in the nineteenth century became the doctors quarters adjoining the Whitchurch Hospital and Asylum. We have copies of the 1841-1881 census records for that time listing the patients and inmates. Later, in Edwardian times, it became a young gentlemens academy. We regret we cannot accommodate pets, except a working dog in a specific supportive role to its owner. Please note - Portland House is strictly
non-smoking.
