Some excerpts from the website of Jarrell 1920 House Bed and Breakfast that might be useful
The Jarrell 1920 House was part of the original Jarrell family farm, now known as Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 5,000 square-foot house has been preserved in its original condition with interior walls and ceilings of beautiful heart pine - from trees felled on Jarrell land, sawn to size on the Jarrell sawmill, and assembled by Jarrell hands. Most of the 19th and early 20th century furniture is still preserved in its original state. Two large, cozy bedrooms for one or two people, with full buffet breakfast in the dining room are currently available. Dick & Mamie's Room has an antique queen-size bed and adjoining bath. The Guest Room has two double antique beds, a private entrance, and a private bath down the hall. Both bedrooms have central heat and air, ceiling fan, color tv, and fireplace. Creme sodas and cookies are served upon arrival. Guests receive free tours of the Jarrell 1920 House and adjoining Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site, both in the National Register of Historic Places. The Jarrell 1920 House is smoke-free.
The bed & breakfast is suitable for well-behaved children over 12. No pets, please. (A sheep dog and his troupe of admiring cats live on the site.) We are open year-round by reservation only. Major credit cards accepted. Sunday through Thursday check-in between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday check-in is between 4:00 pm and one hour before dark. (Please call for exact time.) The Jarrell 1920 House is in the heart of Georgia, 16 miles east of I-75 Forsyth exit 185, next to the Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site, and near the village of Juliette, movie set of "Fried Green Tomatoes." From exit 185 on I-75 in Forsyth, Ga., take Ga. Hwy. 18 east towards Gray for 13 miles. Turn left onto Jarrell Plantation Road for 3.1 miles. Turn left into the driveway to Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site; follow that drive for 1/4 mile.
The first Jarrell family settled in Jones County, Georgia, in 1820. For the next 150 years they drew sustenance, and sometimes prosperity, from this begrudging land. Their ingenuity and tenacity are evident in all they accomplished here. The first two homes built on the land, along with the buildings and equipment of the self-sustaining farm, were donated by the Jarrel1 family to the State of Georgia in 1974 to form the Jarrel1 Plantation State Historic Site. The Jarrel1 1920 House, their third existing home here, is still privately owned. It is an 1850s style plantation country house with walls and ceilings of rare heart pine - felled, milled, and assembled by Dick Jarrel1 and his sons and nephews at the Jarrel1 Plantation. Dick, his wife Mamie, and their ten children, moved into their home in 1920. The house has been passed down to Dick's grandson, who, with his wife, operate the bed and breakfast. Guests receive free tours of the Jarrel1 1920 House and adjoining Jarrel1 Plantation State Historic Site, both in the National Register of Historic Places. Return to another age. Walk through 150 years of Georgia and Jarrel1 family history - each step a witness to the character that made our nation.
