Some excerpts from the website of Casa Rural Adobe that might be useful
Casa Rural Adobe in Valdemaluque (Soria) is a charming, welcoming house. You'll feel it as you come through the door. We don't know whether it's the natural building materials, the echoes of the past, or just a fluke combination of all the right ingredients. 'Adobe' feels right. We've done our best to achieve good soundproofing between rooms and between floors, and the neighbour's telly won't bother you because we haven't put TVs in the bedrooms. And besides, Valdemaluque (Soria) is as peaceful as villages can get. We offer our guests home cooked evening meals featuring local and seasonal produce, from typical pickled meats and wild mushroom dishes to English-style desserts, all washed down with local 'Ribera del Duero' denomination wines and with an excellent price/quality ratio. Our house is a haven of tranquility where couples, families with teenage children and small groups of friends will find a place to relax and recoup energies. We are sure that families with small children will have no trouble finding alternative accommodation better suited to their needs. This is our brand of rural tourism. Our door is wide open to welcome all travellers looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful natural setting. The house is no smoking throughout. The smells of old timbers, wax, wood smoke and home cooking are all part of its charm.
Casa Rural Adobe in Valdemaluque (Soria) is an outsider's homage to the rural architecture of Castile, where earth has for many centuries been the standard building material but is nowadays largely treated with contempt. Back in 2002 we innocently decided to refurbish an old peasant-farmer's cottage using traditional materials and methods. After an uphill struggle we've ended up completely rebuilding the place. With its old timber structure, sun-baked adobe brick walls, and its earth plastering and lime-wash paint finishes you'd never guess it's a new building. Needless to say, although the old house didn't even have piped water, 'Adobe' has been fitted out with modern facilities like en-suite bathrooms in every room and radiant floor heating. In the end it has been worth the effort and we are delighted with the result. The house has a very warm, homely feel. It keeps us cool in summer and cosy in winter. The house has two floors and a small cellar/basement. In its reconstruction we have pretty much maintained the original ground floor layout, adapting the old spaces to new uses, creating a timeless atmosphere. The large entrance hall leads off to all the ground floor rooms. There are two sitting rooms. The front room is the television and computer room, with digital TV and a desktop PC with broad band Internet. The big lounge, which is where the stable used to be, has a log fire ready to be the centre of attention any evening of the year. In the dining room we serve breakfasts and home cooked evening meals specialising in local and seasonal fare. The most surprising feature of our house is the 'pinariega' chimney - a traditional feature of village houses in this part of Soria. We have five spacious guest bedrooms: four doubles and one twin. All have en-suite bathrooms. The ground floor room is suitable for wheelchair users. Upstairs are the other four bedrooms and our own private quarters. The ceilings are sloping but allow plenty of headroom. All the rooms have a telephone (no TV) and wireless Internet. Our house stands in the last street in the village with good views of the fields, the woods, and across towards the Río Lobos Gorge. From the dining room you can step out into our (future!) garden... and you're in the country.
Valdemaluque (Soria) is located in the west of Soria province in the Spanish region of Castile and Leon. It is about 185 km north-northeast of Madrid, 65 km west of the city of Soria, 10 km from the town of El Burgo de Osma, and 4 km from Ucero and the Rio Lobos Gorge nature reserve (Canon del Rio Lobos). The village stands on the east side of the river Ucero valley at around 940 m above sea level. Valdemaluque (Soria) is the head village in a municipality that comprises four other little hamlets: Aylagas, Sotos del Burgo, Valdeavellano de Ucero and Valdelinares. In total these five villages have a combined population of 238 inhabitants (INE 2008) with a density of 3.78 inhabitants/km2. The river valley is bordered on either side by large areas of woodland, particularly oak, pine and juniper woods, and aromatic scrubland with rockrose, lavender and thyme. This countryside is home to roe deer, partridges, hares, foxes and wild boar... and the skies are teeming with a wide range of birds, especially birds of prey and vultures.
