During restoration of this beautiful country house we have conserved as many of the original features as possible. Our guests can appreciate the traditional beauty of the ‘old style’ while enjoying the comforts of modern technology such as under-floor heating and solar panels. South facing, the house maintains a comfortable temperature throughout the day and night, in both summer and winter. Built in the shape of a ‘C’, the exterior walls are of natural stone, peppered with windows, in a variety of shapes and sizes, on three sides; a large, impressive doorway closes the fourth side. An interesting feature of the interior patio is that the original pillars, built to support the first floor, are in tact and form part of the covered walkway. The reception, kitchen, dining and sitting rooms are situated on the ground floor while the six bedrooms, two for family use and four for guests, are on the first floor. The original wine cellar is well stocked; we bake bread in the Pereruela oven; vegetables and a variety of salad leaves are cultivated in the greenhouse. Guests are invited to enjoy the bright sunroom positioned at the end of the terrace. We have furnished Casa Hilario to our taste – it is our home and we hope visitors will share our enthusiasm and love for this house and its many unique features. Some original traditional pieces of furniture, such as the oak bench, are still used for the purpose for which they were created, while others - an old kneading trough for example - have been imaginatively adapted, in this instance as a bookcase containing a small selection of books, newspapers and magazines. Guests are also welcome to use the selection of board games such as chess, dominos and ludo.
Whether looking for an active outdoor adventure or wishing to enjoy some peace and tranquility this unspoiled part of green Spain has it all. Moreover we know you will enjoy your stay at Casa Hilario as we are confident that our accommodation and catering are not only of the highest standard but prepared with the love and care that we feel for our home. Guests are welcome to enjoy the interior patio, which is surrounded by a covered walkway and overlooked by a balcony on three sides. A comfortable temperature is maintained through all seasons thanks to the open fireplace in the lounge complemented by under-floor heating. Guests are invited to relax at the fireside in comfortable, traditional furniture, browse through a well-stocked library or listen to the radio in the evenings before retiring to en-suite, stylish bedrooms. We have 4 bedrooms, 2 with double bed and 2 with 2 beds of 0.90, with a capacity for 10 people if we include extra in 2 of them. All rooms are spacious and bright. We have underfloor heating can be regulated from the same room. And they are very well insulated, so they are very quiet. Three of them are directly accessible from the corridor. They are furnished with antique furniture, wrought iron and wood headboards, wardrobes walnut, antique tables, etc. All rooms have private bathroom, two with shower and two with bath, modern and functional. None of them are tv. No smoking in rooms but in the courtyard and the terrace, provided they do not disturb others.
Casa Hilario is a Bed & Breakfast, offering not only accommodation but also information about activities and points of interest in the area. We encourage guests to get the most out of their stay and experience the diverse countryside as well as the cultural specialities: climbing and walking in the mountains and moorlands; ski-ing at San Isidro in winter; swimming in the rivers or mountain biking in summer; visits to cities such as Leon or Astorga with their historical and cultural wealth – the possibilities are endless. Leon has its own ‘cuisine’ and we hope you will allow us to prepare for you traditional home-cooked regional specialities.
