Appartments/Studio's. Entrance of the hotel and bar. Right in the middle of the monumental part of the colourful centre from Alkmaar you find the only city hotel in this city. With excellent restaurants and cosy cafe-bars in the neighbourhood you can enjoy the nightlife A two-minute walk brings you (on Friday in the tourist season) to the famous cheese market where the owner too, his duty as cheese carrier fulfils. The seven deluxe hotel rooms are oases of quietness in the middle of the city centre. The rooms have all conveniences, their own bathroom of the highest quality and some rooms have a balcony. The (bridal) suite has an American bubble bath, massage shower and a mini fridge, is very roomy inclusive a roof terrace. In the direct surroundings you can visit local musea, movie theatres and shopping streets and make use of the excellent public transport to visit coastal towns like Bergen and Egmond on sea within half an hour. In the hotel you can get all information concerning the hire of bicycle’s, motorboats or canoe’s so you can have a different view on our beautiful city of Alkmaar. Behind the hotel is a paid parking area (max.2 hours, after 21.00 hours till 09.00 hours free) but we also want to point out to you the possibility of parking your car or motor undercover or to point out places where you can park for free (+/- 200 meters from the hotel). Sights 1 Cheese Market. From the first Friday in April up to and including the first Friday in September Every Friday-morning from 10.00-12.30 h. 2 Weighing-House. Originally a chapel dedicated to the Holy Ghost (1341). Converted into a Weighing-House in 1582. The tower dates from 1595-1599. The figures on horseback in the tower joust every hour while the trumpeter blows a clarion call 11.00-15.00-19.00 h. The carillon is played on Fridays 10.40-11.10 and 11.40-12.00 h (Cheese market season). Thursday 18.30-19.30 and Sat. 12-13 h. The Dutch Cheese Museum, permanent exhibition about past and present cheesemaking practices, also daily slide shows. 3 National Beer museum De Boom. Housed in a 17th century brewery. Also a bar, where you can try 86 sorts of Dutch beer. 4 Municipal Museum. Museum of cultural history of Alkmaar and district. 5 Dutch Beatles Museum. Impressive collection, also Beatles shop. 6 Dutch Stove Museum. Overview of the stylistic and technical developments throughout the time. 7 Archaeological Centre, Oudegracht 245, tel. 072-5142630. 8 Departure boat tour (or canal tour). 9 Departure Cruises. 10 Molen van Piet. A windmill still in use as a flour mill. Built in 1769. Stands on one of the old ramparts. Called after the celebrated family of millers that have lived and worked in it for generations. Open: Fr. and Sa. 10.00-1 7.00 h. or by appointment. 11 't Roode Hert Corn Museum. For guided tours, visits to the Corn Mill and exhibitions. Open: Tu. to Fr. inc.-. 8.00-12.30 am and 1.30-6.00 pm, Sa.: 8.00-12.00 am. 12 Grote Kerk Church of St. Lawrence. Built between 1470 and 1516. Excellently preserved three-nave cruciform church. Builders included members of the celebrated Keldermans family of architects from Malines. Impressive interior. Against the west front is a splendid large organ, built by Jacob van Campen and restored by Kaspar Schnittger. 13 Remonstrant Church. Arminian meeting-house dating from 1658, built in original granary. 14 Chapel or St. John's Church. Founded in the 15th century by the Knights of Malta. Burnt down and rebuilt in 1760. Muller organ. Open: during cheese market season every Friday 10.00-14.00 h. 15 Town Hall. East part with tower dates from the beginning of the 16th century. Late Gothic. West part from 1694. 16 The House with the Cannon-ball. 16th century. The cannonball lodged in the facade of the house, is a reminder of the cannonball fired through the house during the conflict against the Spanish. 17 Fish Market. Built in 1591. Restored in 1644. 18 Accijnstoren (Excise Tower). 1622. Moved out of the way of traffic in 1924, the clock continuing to tick away all the while. At present harbour-master's office. 19 The Hof van Sonoy. In the Middle Ages the convent of St. Mary Magdalene stood here. In 1576 the group of buildings came into the hands of the Governor of the Prince of Orange. Jonkheer Diedrick Sonoy. Now there are boutiques and a restaurant here. 20 Hofje van Splinter. 1646. Almshouse for eight old ladies. 21 Wildemanshofje. 1714. Home for old ladies. A cozy bar with 6 different beers on draft. The bar is build in the style of the thirties with beautiful glasstained windows and own design lighting. In the bar you can play biljarts, darts and chess. Below the bar in the basement are the luxioursly toilets.

This is the largest and the most luxurious room of Hotel te Laat. This room has a table with 2 chairs, mini-refrigerator, wide screen TV with remote control, luggage rack and a terrace facing south of 20 m2. Terras of the suite.

After the second roundabout it is the ninth street on the left, across from the canal boats (Limmerhoek). Description of the route by train. The train from Amsterdam Central to Alkmaar runs twice in the hour (Intercity) at 23 and 53 minutes over the hour, mostly from platform 8a This journey takes aprox. 30 minutes. The stop train from Amsterdam takes 12 minutes longer. The last intercity leaves Amsterdam on 00.23 hour and the last stop train on 01.00 hour. Train cost DFL 11,50 for a single journey, DFL 20,25 for a return. Train taxi from Alkmaar station to the hotel DFL 7,50. The hotel lies 10 minutes walk from the station. At the main entrance of the railway station you turn to the right, walk straight ahead till the traffic lights, turn left on the Scharloo road, straight ahead along the roundabout, over the bridge into town. Before the St.Laurents church turn right at the ABN/AMRO bank. When you follow this street for about 500 Mt you find Hotel Te Laat on your right-hand side, past the department store of VD, on number 117. The train from Alkmaar to Amsterdam central leaves twice in the hour at 7 and 37 minutes over the hour. Description of the route by car from Amsterdam. Follow the A9 till the roundabout at Alkmaar. Go straight ahead into Alkmaar till the next roundabout, go straight ahead, take the 9th street on the left, this is the Limmerhoek follow this street into the Laat. After about 350 Mt you find the hotel on the left on number 117.
