Favorite Things to Do on Orcas. If you are new to Orcas or haven't been here for a while, here are some of my favorite things to do on Orcas. At The Homestead: go for a sail on Discovery, our Ranger 20 fiberglass daysailer.Take a 15 minute paddle from our dock over to Skull Island State Park.Cycle the roads in either direction out our driveway for miles of coastal,farms and small town scenery. photographic archival print by Michael Skott. dinner. Don't miss their deck on a sunny afternoon overlooking Westsound.
Restaurant at Deer Harbor Inn- I recommend eating there in the summer when you can sit on the deck overlooking Deer Harbor. Olga
Cafe-if you go for a walk at Mountain Lake keep going on to Olga. They have wonderful desserts especially the Blackberry pie and delicious
lunches. The Artworks is in the same building. the fanciest place to eat serving fresh local ingredients. Make sure Christina is cooking, then you can be sure to have a wonderful meal. Roses Bakery- if you like authentic French bread, good cheese and wine this place is for you. There is a indoor and outdoor
cafe serving handmade pizzas,locally grown salads and other wonderful things. Teezers- a great
coffee and cookie stop. Portofino Pizzeria-excellent pizza with an awesome view overlooking Eastsound. On Saturday mornings May - October is the farmer’s market 10-3. has a nice selection of quality handmade objects. A great place to
shop for locally made things. Olga Artworks-crafts made on Orcas. Make this part of a
trip to Moran State park. Darville's Bookstore-a great small bookshop with a winderful selection of books, gifts and cards. Rick's Homegrown Market-excellent fresh fish and seafood. When in season (early June), this is the place to get Copper River Salmon. Sailing on Discovery at The Homestead dock. Hanging out at Seaside. The most awesome view is from Mount Constitution. Dont miss it on a clear day especially in the afternoon. It's also a good place to learn about some history of the island. There is a large play toy at Buck Park (near the
tennis courts off Mt. Baker Road) and at Cascade Lake in Moran State Park. Guided kayak
tours are available through in Deer Harbor. See them at the Deer Harbor Marina in the teal colored houseboat. Deer Harbor Charters. (whale watching) is next door.This could be the most memorable thing you do while vacationing in the islands. Take a
tour of the islands on Magic Air, a vintage biplane. Biking around the Westsound-Deer Harbor area. More information about the islands can be found on the. Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce. San Juan Islands Visitors

Orcas Island
Weddings and Events. The Homestead offers a lovely waterfront setting for
wedding ceremonies and receptions. Our gentle, west facing grounds provide several delightful spots for that special exchange of vows and can accommodate tents up to 40 by 80 feet for the reception. We have a path leading along the water's edge to a beautiful point suitable for smaller
weddings and a large open meadow with sunset views for larger events. Photography of your

wedding photography click here. Our site fee of $2200 includes
parking,trash removal, rental delivery/set up and use of the site over a period of three days. This is for
weddings up to 100 guests.For
parties under 30 guests or over 100 guests please call for information. We can make all the arrangements for your event (tent,
furniture, table settings, flowers, catering, personal services, etc.), can leave the organization up to you, or accommodate any combination which suits. Please call to discuss details. Both the Seaside and the Blackberry must be rented for any event. Two night minimum in the off season, three night minimum in the peak season. Foot path leading to intimate waterfront ceremony site. Bring your acoustic musician, your friends and family for a simple ceremony by the sea.

Jeanne and Michael Skott moved to Orcas Island from New York City in 1989, first opening the Homestead to guests in 1994. They and their teenage son, Alexander, live on the island with Suzy, a 7 year old terrier mutt adopted during one of the familys many sailing
trips to Mexico. Michael is a professional photographer who worked for many years from his 244 5th Ave
studio in Manhattan.Starting out as an
assistant for well known commercial photographer Arthur Beck, Michael went on to produce imagery for clients such as American Express, Coca Cola, American Airlines, Hertz, Hilton Hotels and Mercedes Benz. His photography has appeared in such publications as Metropolitan Home, Coastal Living, Food Wine, Better Homes and
Gardens, Country Home and Western Interiors and Design. Michael photographed Martha Stewarts succesful first book, Entertaining and has since worked on numerous book projects including California Cooking for the California Museum of Art, American Country books by Mary Emmerling and the recently released Sailing Style by Tricia Foley. His latest book project is by Orcas Island's own Christina Orchid, entitled Christina's Cookbook: Recipies and Stories from a Northwest Island
Kitchen. Recently, Jeanne and Michael created a series of photographic giclee prints showing scenery of the San Juan Islands.Printed individually in their
office using archival inks and paper, these make wonderful momentos of an island visit or gifts for all occasions. Jeanne, a graduate of the Parsons School of Design, worked with Michael both as a stylist and
studio manager in New York, since focusing her many aesthetic and managerial talents upon the development of the Homestead vacation property. Jeanne is an avid
gardener, cook, cyclist and certified sailing instructor who loves the beautiful natural environment of the San Juan Islands. Michael and Jeanne strive to create a comfortable, relaxed environment for their guests, one that strikes a balance between simple elegance and natural
beauty, all the things they have come to admire about this unique little piece of the world.
Waterfront Vacation Rental Property. The Homestead is a waterfront retreat on the west-facing shore of West Sound on Orcas Island, perfect for a romantic weekend or family reunion for a week. Our two rustic contemporary vacation cottages, the Seaside and Blackberry, are tucked away on a sunny, natural 4 acre waterfront site.Sunsets,a private beach and dock are yours to enjoy. The Homestead offers an eight person hot
tub in secluded setting with a lovely sunset view along the water's edge. Small boats can moor at our dock and there is a delightful secluded beach with easy low
bank access. This charming spot features rocky outcroppings and tide
pools, the perfect low tide play spot for children and adults alike. We have a row boat and a kayak at the dock for you to use at your leisure. You are an easy row over to Skull Island Marine State Park where you may enjoy wildflowers in the spring or a lazy afternoon picnic in the summer or fall. Pristine hiking trails and panoramic island vistas are found at Turtleback Mountain Reserve just a 30 minute walk from our driveway. If a brush with civilization is needed, the village of Eastsound is a 15-minute undulating drive away, with time to take in some spectacular scenery along the way. In between, take your pick of the myriad boating, fishing, hiking, whale-watching, biking, kayaking and other recreational opportunities nearby. Or simply hang out. The Homestead is child friendly. The facilities are
non-smoking and no pets please. We have a two day minimum stay (three day minimum in summer). Call for weekly rates in the off season. Low season rates in effect September 21-May 24.
