Modern Comfort in an Historic Setting. Slane Farm's historic coach house and stables have been respectfully refurbished and converted into a luxury hostel complete with all amenities. The atmosphere is one of simple comfort and easy going familiarity and provides an insight into life in rural Ireland. Guests have a choice of three family rooms, all en-suite, or three dormitories, also all en-suite. All areas are non-smoking. Amenities include a kitchen, living room with television, laundry/drying facilities, a reception area, and a meeting/games room. 3 Family Rooms There are three Family Rooms available at Slane Farm Hostel - one room with a double bed and one bunk bed and two rooms with a double bed and two bunk beds. All family rooms are ensuite and bed linen is provided for guests. A hair dryer is available. Laundry/Drying Room Guests at Slane Farm Hostel can avail of the use of washing machines and dryers for a minimum charge. Ironing facilities are also available. Kitchen There is a cosy kitchen at Slane Farm Hostel with all modern cooking utensils and equipment including cooker, microwave, toasters, fridge, liquidisers. Tea, coffee, sugar and jams are all provided for guests. Games/Meeting Room Guests can enjoy a game of table tennis, pool, darts, board games, PlayStation in the Games Room at Slane Farm Hostel. It can also be used as a discussion or meeting room for groups staying at the hostel. Living/TV Room The living room at Slane Farm Hostel provides a relaxing atmosphere for guests to enjoy. There are many books, DVDs and videos for evening entertainment and Internet access is also available. 3 Dormitories There are three dormitories at Slane Farm Hostel with 6, 8 and 10 beds, all ensuite. All bed linen is provided for guests. Secure lockers are available in each dorm. A hair dryer is available for guests. Parking Luggage There is ample secure parking outside the hostel. There are also storage facilities for left luggage. Camping Ground The campsite adjacent to Slane Farm Hostel provides space for up to 20 tents. Toilet and shower facilities are provided with hot and cold water. Kitchen facilities also available. Rates for the campsite are 8 euro per adult per night. Children half price. Chateau de Trim Le chateau de Trim represente l'exemple le plus imposant de chateau Anglo-normand en Europe. Il est sis a la frontiere de la region autrefois connue sous le nom de Pale. Cette region, comprenant l'actuelle ville de Dublin, etait la place forte Anglo-normande resistant aux irlandais gaeliques installes beyond the Pale (au-dela du Pale). Colline de Tara La colline de Tara fut la residence de druides, de guerriers et le siege des Hauts-Rois d'Irlande. Tain Trail (Piste du Tain) La Piste du Tain correspond a la route qu'emprunterent les armees de la Reine Maeve et de Cuchulainn, les sites ou ils bivouaquerent et se battirent, comme le raconte l'epopee celtique An Tain Bo Cuailgne, La razzia du betail de Cooley. Cette saga, vieille de plus de douze siecles, est l'une des plus celebres epopees de l'inepuisable fonds irlandais de mythes et legendes. Kells La ville de Kells est celebre dans le monde entier pour son immense chef-d'oeuvre : le Livre de Kells. Bien que l'original soit desormais expose au Trinity College de Dublin, vous pouvez en admirer des copies en fac-simile au Centre du Patrimoine de Kells ainsi qu'e l'eglise Church of Ireland. Loughcrew Le site de Loughcrew est probablement le plus vieux cimetiere connu du monde, anterieur de plus de 2000 ans aux pyramides d'Egypte! Drogheda Monasterboice Drogheda est l'une des plus anciennes villes d'Irlande. Elle est situee al'embouchure de la Boyne. Elle est souvent decrite comme la Porte de la vallee de la Boyne. Abbaye de Mellifont Dans une vallee isolee, a six kilometres du village de Slane, se dressent les ruines du celebre et autrefois magnifique site monastique de Mellifont. Navan le Chateau de Dunmoe Navan, la capitale du comte de Meath, est situee au confluent des rivieres Boyne et Blackwater. La ville, maintenant un centre commercial prospere, prit de l'importance au 12eme siecle lorsque Hugh de Lacy, seigneur de Trim, fit construire des remparts qui entourent l'actuel centre-ville. Visiting the Royal County. Slane Farm Hostel is perfectly located for visiting the towns, villages and attractions of County Meath and the Boyne Valley. The area abounds in heritage sites spanning 5000 years of Irish history, from the neolithic to the present. There are burial mounds, abbeys, battlefields and castles. Slane Castle Slane Castle is the home of The Earl and Countess of Mount Charles and is well known as a venue for rock concerts every summer, courtesy of the owner, Lord Henry Mountcharles. Hill of Slane A short walk across Slane Farm will bring you to the hill of Slane where St. Patrick lit his Paschal fire, ceremoniously announcing the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. The Battle of the Boyne Located six miles from the east of the village of Slane is the site of the famous Battle of the Boyne. Trim Castle Trim Castle is the largest remaining Anglo-Norman castle in Europe and stands at the edge of the area once known as The Pale - the Anglo-Norman stronghold. Hill of Tara The Hill of Tara has been home to druids, warriors and was the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. The Hill of Tara today has the ruins of the royal enclosures, and circular mound formations. Kings, poets and heroes used to gather at Tara every three years. Bru na Boinne At a bend in the River Boyne, Bru na Boinne comprises the spectacular passage tombs of Knowth, Dowth and Newgrange. These cairns were built around 3200BC and so they are older than Stonehenge in England and the Pyramids of Egypt. Tain Trail The Tain Trail is the route that the armies of Queen Maeve and Cuchulainn followed, where they rested and where they fought, as outlined in the epic tale An Tain Bo Cuailgne The Cattle Raid of Cooley. This saga is over twelve centuries old. Kells The town of Kells is famous the world over for the masterpiece that is the Book of Kells. Although the original is now located in Trinity College Dublin, facsimile copies can be viewed in Kells Heritage Centre and also in the Church of Ireland. Loughcrew Loughcrew is probably the oldest known graveyard in the world - predating the Pyramids of Egypt by 2000 years! It is the largest known complex of megalithic structures in Ireland. It has been suggested that Cairn T was designed specifically to define the Leap Year Cycle or the Four Year Equinox. Castlebellingham The name Castlebellingham comes from the fact that the Bellingham family had their home in the village. Drogheda Drogheda is one of Ireland's oldest towns. It is located at the mouth of the River Boyne, in County Louth, and is often described as the Gateway to the Boyne Valley. Monasterboice Nearby Monasterboice is where the Monasterboice High Cross (Muiredach;s Cross) and Round Tower can be visited. Mellifont Abbey In a sequestered valley four miles from the village of Slane stands the remains of the once magnificent and celebrated monastic foundation of Mellifont. Navan Dunmoe Castle Navan is the county town of Meath and is situated where the rivers Blackwater and Boyne meet. The town, now a busy market town, grew in importance when in the 12th century, Hugh de Lacy, Lord of Trim, had walls built around the area where the town is now situated. Slane Village The picturesque village of Slane is only 1.5 miles from Slane Farm Hostel, and has many attractive shops, pubs and restaurants. The village is situated around a cross-roads on each corner of which stands a large Georgian house. Francis Ledwidge Museum Slane is the birthplace of the poet Francis Ledwidge (1887-1917) and the Ledwidge Cottage Museum in Slane commemorates the writer.
