Whitby - Gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors and Heritage Coast. The quaint streets of Whitby, leading to the harbour, which provided the inspiration for Bram Stoker's classic novel Dracula, are now filled with curios, antiques and small shops where personal service is still the rule, making browsing and shopping a real pleasure. Above the town stands St. Mary's Church which features carved pews made by ship's carpenters and craftsmen from Whitby's once booming whaling fleet. The town's museum gives only a hint of the rich history which can be found by wandering around Whitby's streets. Inside the museum, discover the towns most famous inhabitant, Captain James Cook, who sailed from this port to change the history of the world. His house can still be seen in Grape Lane. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park, bordered by the Cleveland and Hambleton Hills, is a quiet, unspoilt upland area perfect for walking or touring. From the magnificent, panoramic views at the top of Sutton Bank to Grosmont, the junction of the impressive North York Moors Steam Railway with the Esk Valley line, lies peaceful moorland and gentle valleys with pretty villages, castles and abbeys in abundance. Hotel of the Year 2007. We are proud to announce that we are the winner of Hotel of the Year 2007, Moors and Coast Tourism Awards for the second year running. This prestiege event is organised by Scarborough Council, Rydale District Council, Hambleton District Council, North Yorkshire Moors National Park and Yorkshire Forward. As from 1st January 2006, Saxonville Hotel has decided to adopt a total non-smoking policy through out the building, this is for the comfort of and guests and staff. Our car park is situated across the road from the hotel and has private parking for up to 20 cars. Due to a popular demand Saxonville Hotel now has a Four Poster Bedroom. This 5 foot Chatsworth Design Bed is beautifully draped to co-ordinate with the curtains and bedspread. This is the ideal room for that Special Occasion or just if you need a little pampering. Ground Floor Bedroom. The Small lounge at the front of the building has been turned into a ground floor bedroom. This room is ideal for our less mobile guests who prefer not to climb the stairs.
