Hotel Ladoga Gateway (Laatokan Portti) is located in Parikkala on the beautiful shores of Lake Simpele and was a former Border Guard Station. It's location is pointed out on any map of Southeastern Finland where the Russian border forms a sharp angle pointing west. To-day's Border Guard is still using the watch tower next to Route Six for it's observations. The Hotel is about five hundred meters from the border. The distance from Helsinki is 310 km, Lappeenranta 95 km, Imatra 55 km, Savonlinna 65 km, Joensuu 135 km and Punkaharju 37 km. Some of the best known attractions in Parikkala are Siikalahti bird sanctuary, Koitsanlahti Manor and Statue Park nearby. The distance to the new Kolmikanta-Syvnoro border crossing area is only 5-6 kilometers. You can stay overnight at Laatokan Portti and when the crossing is fully open you can make day trips to the shores of Lake Ladoga in Karelia.
