Casa Domingo is situated in the
centre of one of the most beautiful areas in Andalusia. The village of Alora is a pueblo blanco (a white village), which lies against a slope and overlooks wheat fields, citrus- and almond trees and olive groves. In Alora you will find the second oldest church of Spain; the Iglesia de la Encarnacion, on the Plaza Baja de la Despedia. Every Monday during the weekly market the streets are filled with stalls where you can buy vegetables, fruit, textile, On the highest of the two hillocks of Alora lies the Arabic Castle. It's origins are Phoenician and the Romans fortified its ruins. Subsequently, the Arabs transformed it into a residence and fortress, a place difficult to capture. There you can also enjoy an exceptional view over the valley of the Guadalhorce-river. In the immediate surroundings there are several natural parks, such as El Chorro, El desfiladero de los Gaitanes and the runes of Bobastro. A little further you will find the Embalses de Guadalhorce, magnificently shaped lakes of the purest water in which you can take a refreshing dive. Alora is the perfect starting point to discover all the gems and natural wonders of Andalucia. The village is situated in the middle of what is called the golden city triangle; Cordoba, Granada and Seville. o 40km from Alora 40 minutes by car. The Parque Natural del Torcal consists of a huge piece of limestone, which received the weirdest shapes by the wind and the rain. It is here that John Wayne has made a lot of his
movies. The park is a paradise for biologists; there are foxes and weasels, eagles, hawks and vultures. Here, you also find rare plants and flowers. Antequera is a busy commercial city at the
centre of the valley of the Guadalhorce river. There are 36 churches to be admired, but the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Carmen is certainly worth going. o 70km from Alora 1 hour by car. Ronda is one of the most spectacularly situated cities of Spain. The old city is divided in two by a huge cleft of almost 100 meters deep. The picturesque road towards Ronda passes by the natural park of Sierra de las Nieves a by the Unesco protected biosphere reservation because of its pinsapo (andalusian fir). o 40km from Alora 35 minutes by car or with the local train. The lively port of Malaga is the second largest city in Andalusia. We highly recommend a visit to the Museo of Picasso. The Alcazaba of Malaga is also very impressive. On a hill just behind the Alcazaba you can find the ruins of the Castillo de Gibralfaro, a Moorish castle built in the 14th century. From the ruins you have a splendid view over the old city, the port and the arena of Malaga. o 155km from Alora 2 hours by car. In the middle of a desolate landscape lies the city of Cordoba. The old city is situated around the Mezquita, the big mosque, on the
bank of the Guadalquivir. It is one of the most important Islamic monuments in Europe. Around the Mezquita you will find the Jewish district or Juderia with its synagogue. A walk in this neighbourhood gives you the feeling of being in the middle ages. Venture down the narrow streets, its secret niches, and discover a handful of workshops where you can see silver-smiths make jewellery The Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos with it's beautiful
gardens is also worth visiting. o 140km from Alora 1 hour and 50 minutes by car. Granada is most famous for its Alhambra. The Alhambra is a fortress build by the Moors on the top of a hill in Granada. Since there are a lot of people who are visiting this place, we advise you to buy your
