Welcome to Rufflets Country House Hotel, St Andrews, one of the oldest established and highest quality Country House Hotels in Scotland. 5 Star Visitscotland - 4 Red Star AA. The turreted mansion house, set in 10 acres of award-winning
gardens one mile west of St Andrews, has been in the same family ownership since 1952 (see history). Rufflets offers a wide variety of accommodation options with 24 individually designed
bedrooms and two self contained 4 star Lodges in the grounds, making the hotel a favourite for weekend and short breaks. The fine dining
Terrace Restaurant is recognised as one of the finest in St.Andrews and the surrounding area, with the hotel's own
garden supplying much of the fresh produce.
Golf, of course, is the main attraction. St Andrews may be the worlds acclaimed 'home of
golf ' but the medieval town offers excellent shopping, art galleries, theatre and museums. The castle, cathedral, university buildings and combination of Victorian and Edwardian streets form one of the most attractive towns in the U.K. Our renowned service and attention to detail make the hotel a favourite for
Weddings, Civil Marriages and corporate events.
Rufflets is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and is recognised, by the Automobile Association, as one of the top 200 hotels in Britain and among the top ten hotels in Scotland. Set in 10 acres of award winning
gardens, the turreted mansion house is located one mile outside St Andrews and has been in the same private family ownership since 1952 when the seven
bedroom house was bought as a private home, prior to being converted into an hotel. Considerable investment has been made in sympathetically extending the building, in keeping with the character of the original house. The interior has been refurbished to match the exacting standards expected from discerning international guests, whilst still managing to retain the charm and ambience of a private country house. The current owner, Ann Murray-Smith, takes a personal interest in the interior design, and the décor of the spacious public
rooms and
bedrooms reflect her individual style and taste. Accommodation consists of
24 bedrooms and
suites, 19 of which are located in the main house, including The Gilroy
Suite and our acclaimed Turret
Rooms. Additionally, there is a
suite in Rufflets Lodge. Families and friends have a wide choice of accommodation in either one of our
two bedroom family rooms, or our new, self catering lodges, ideal for golfers,
wedding parties, or corporate use.
The elegant drawing
room, with Adam fireplace, is renowned for its collection of Russell Flint water colour paintings. Soft furnishings in pastel shades, comfy sofas and armchairs and glowing lamps make this a relaxing place to curl up in front of the fire with a book, or sample afternoon
tea with Rufflets renowned home baking.
Bar Lunches are served daily in the brasserie style Music
Room Bar & Library. In the evening the mood changes and the
Bar becomes the place to enjoy a pre-
dinner cocktail whilst ordering
dinner from the fine dining
Terrace Restaurant menu. After
dinner you must try some of the 100 malt whiskys on offer. The
Terrace Restaurant has been awarded two AA rosettes for the past seven years, and is one of the best
restaurants in St.Andrews. Rufflets' ten acre
gardens are a joy to behold and are one of the hotel's greatest assets. The
gardens have won many national awards over the years, including the UK Benson & Hedges Hotel
garden of the year. Rufflets has also participated in Scotland's
Gardens Scheme, where
gardens are open to the public on specific days during the year. Rufflets head
gardener, Andy Duncan, has lovingly tended the
gardens for 28 years, planning stunning, colourful borders and supplying the hotel with freshly cut flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs throughout the season, in addition to keeping the acres of grass and formal hedges neatly trimmed. Rufflets
gardens are much sought after for
wedding photography, as the romantic streams, bridges and mature trees provide an ideal backdrop for memorable photographs. The
terrace and lower
garden is also licensed for civil marriage ceremonies. The secluded setting, woodland and 1.5 acre field, make Rufflets an ideal venue for outdoor sporting activities and team building events, ideal for corporate use. The sunny, south facing
terrace is popular during summer months for al fresco dining and regular monthly Sunday jazz events are held throughout the summer.
