Welcome to the International Student Center! This can be your home away from home. We embrace diversity and we celebratethe multicultural experiences of our earth community.As a not for profit youth hostel, the International Student Center is committed to creating a safe space for nurturing cultural and educational experiences through exposure, conversations, passionate debates, friendships, and those moments of silence. We welcome young people ~ students, wanderers, the nomad, and the monk (between the ages of 18 and 35) ~ traveling through NewYork City to visit us and be our guest.All guests must hold an international passport or othergovernment-issued ID. A great travel destination in the USAConveniently located on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, the International Student Center is housed in a historical brownstone building in a beautiful and safe residential neighborhood, a hop-step-and-jump from Central Park. We are also easy to find, half-a-block away from the localC and B subway trains; and two blocks away from the 1 and 9 subway trains, besides easily accessible by bus and taxi too. Suresh Paul :: Suresh is the Executive Director of the organization, responsible for all matters related to the International Student Center, the International Counselor Exchange Program, and the Arts for PEACE initiative. Suresh has been involved with the organization since 1994, and is the founder of the Arts for PEACE initiative the Arts for PEACE Gallery. William Andriano :: William is the Front Desk Manager. His duties range from administrative work, supervising the staff; from accommodating guests, to emergency procedures. He has been working at the Student Center since 1996, and participated in the ICEP summer program in 1995 as an international counselor here in New York. Welton Smith died at the International Student Center in February 2006. Welton was our Poet in residence, besides being a facilitator for in-depth conversations on several historical matters and contemporary concerns. He was associated with the Student Center for over 30 years, and we will miss him enormously! © 2007 International Student Center

is located in a brownstone building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. Our address is 38 West 88th Street, mid-block between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, near the 86th Street station on the B and C subway trains. You can also take the 1 and 9 subway trains that runs two blocks away from us on Broadway. Get off at the 86th Street station and walk two blocks north east toward 38 West 88th St., mid-block between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West. To reach us from JFK International Airport: Take the Airtrain ($5) from the airport terminal to the Howard Beach subway ($2) station, where you can take the A train going uptown to Manhattan and change to the C or B train at 59th street (Columbus Circle). Get off at 86th street and walk two blocks toward 88th street, we are located at 38 West 88th Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Stop by the Ground Transportation desk and ask about where to catch the Super Shuttle, which will drop you off at the door of the International Student Center (38 West 88th Street in Manhattan, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue). Cost: $15/person. Call 1-212-258-3826. From La Guardia International Airport: You can take the M 60 bus from La Guardia Airport to the last stop, 113th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. Then take the M 104 bus going downtown to 88th Street and Broadway. Walk two blocks from Broadway and 88th Street toward Central Park West Avenue (past Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues.). You can also take a taxi (approximately $30) from La Guardia airport to the International Student Center at 38 West 88th Street in Manhattan, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. From Newark International Airport: Take the AirTrain from the terminal to the Newark International Airport Train Station. Take the New Jersey Transit train to Penn Station in New York City (approximately $11 one way). Follow directions from Penn Station (below). Take the Olympia bus ($13 one-way ticket) from the airport to 42nd Street and Port Authority terminal in Manhattan. From here, take the C train ($2) going uptown to 86th street. Then, walk two blocks toward 88th street. We are located in the middle of the block at 38 West 88th Street, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. From Penn Station or Port Authority Bus Terminal: Take the C Subway train going uptown to the 86th Street stop, and exit on 88th street. The Hostel Facilities. The youth hostel offers 50 beds in dormitory style accommodations, both single sex and co-ed rooms. Housed in a historical brown stone building, it's a simple, clean and comfortable place. Your new home, away from home! Guest Amenities Include... Friendly, international staff. Safe and secure storage area (lockers are also available). Internet and possibilities to use the computer. We provide free sheets for your bed. Additionally we offer... A simple but charming garden blossoms in our backyard all year round, with special attention during Spring, Summer and Autumn. We even offer free herbs for guests to harvest during the summer months. Full kitchen and common lounge with TV and public phones. House phones on each dormitory floor allows guests to receive calls from 9am to 11pm. Messages are posted on the notice board, if guests receive calls when they are out. Guests have access to two public phones in the common lounge area to make outgoing calls. However, guests need to obtain a key ($10 deposit) for the front door to enter the building at night. The front desk office is open daily, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, from 9am to 11pm.

Frequently Asked Questions. What are the rooms like and how much do they cost? The has no private rooms, only dormitory style. The price per night is $20 (discounted off-season rate per night between January 11 and April 30) and includes all taxes; Or, $30 per night between May 1 and January 10. What time is check-out? Check out is at 10 am. All guests who wish to stay for an additional night must also pay before 10am. How many nights may I stay at the Student Center? Two week maximum stay [based on availability] during the Summer and Autumn months, from June to October. And, two week maximum stay during the Winter Spring months, from November to May [In some cases, guests may be allowed to stay an extra week (a maximum total of 21 days), based on the approval of the management.]. May I store my bags in the reception area after I have checked out? No. Due to limited space and security reasons, only guests of the International Student Center may store their luggage with us. On the day of their check-out guests may store luggage for a cost of $1/hour until 5pm. May I invite guests to visit me while I am staying at the Student Center? No. For the security and comfort of all guests, visitors of guests must wait in the reception area. Does the Student Center take reservations in advance? Yes, we accept reservations in advance by phone and through our. Once we have confirmed a reservation, guests must call 2 days prior to the day of arrival to confirm the reservation. Availability is very limited during the summer (June, July, and August)!
