This charming home boasts many fine original details including original wide-board floors throughout, hand-hewn beams, wainscoting, a corner cupboard, beehive oven and six working fireplaces. The house was built by Deacon Timothy Pratt in 1746 and served as a private school in the 1790’s. In our Pratt House Scrap Book, you can read an excerpt from a girl’s journal who attended school here. Timothy Pratt was a carpenter and served as a Deacon in the church across the street, thus it’s present day name. A formal, candlelit

From the BB take a scenic stroll along the water past the historic homes and scenic views of North and South Cove, Saybrook Point, and Fenwick. Watch the sun set over the ocean or take a walk at Fort Saybrook Monument Park or out to one of Old Saybook’s lighthouses.There is a marvelous scenic coastal bicycle loop right from the BB which takes you along 10 miles of beautiful coastline and historic homes. There are two public boat launches; one is half a mile from the BB and affords great canoe/kayak routes and scenery from the cove to the river to the sound. Directions Policies. From the North (Bradley Int’l Apt: Hartford, CT and Mass.): Interstate 91 South to Route 9 South to 95 south. Take first exit off 95 South (exit 68). Go straight at end of ramp, at fork (stop sign) bear right onto Route 1 South. At next traffic light go left (continuing on Rte 1 South). At second light go left onto Main Street. Go 0.8 miles, just past James Gallery on right. From the East (Rhode Island and Providence
Airport): Interstate 95 South to exit 68, follow directions from exit 68 above. From the South and West (New York City/ Laguardia
Airport): Interstate 95 North to exit 67, bearing right at fork on exit ramp. At traffic light at bottom of exit ramp, continue straight onto Route 1 South/West. At second light go left onto Main Street. Go 0.8 miles, just past James Gallery on right. Check in: anytime before 6 P.M preferably, Check out: 11:00 am.
