1890 - Jules Maqua and wife Eugenie open their cafe. 1910 - The cafe is transformed into a hotel-restaurant. 1920 - Their children Raymond, Emile and Philomene take over the business. 1946 - Roger and Andree oversee the successful re-launch of the family business ably assisted in the kitchen by their uncle Eugene. 1970 - Raymond, one of the present owners, takes over the chefs role from his mother while Raymonds fiancee Severine and her future father-in-law both serve in the dining room. 1973 - Raymond and Severine marry and have two 2 daughters, Angelique and Caroline. 1980 Philippe marries Hedwig who, together with Severine, manages the restaurant. Three children are born from this marriage - Julie, Joan and Stephan. Joan is a graduate in hotel management, while Stephan is still at college and showing real promise as a chef. 1991 - In the hotels centenary year, Raymond, Philippe and their wives take over the running of the business. 1999 Angelique and Wim get married and together open the Ferronniere, a hotel-restaurant established in a superb fully-refurbished manor house perched on the heights above Bouillon. 2001 Official centenary celebration of the Hotel des Ardennes. 2003 The hotel undergoes a face-lift for the third millennium.

SURROUNDINGS AND ACTIVITIES. It all began in 1890 when Jules Maqua and his wife Eugenie opened a cafe. Realising that tourists visiting the region were often in need of accommodation, they decided in 1910 to convert their cafe into a hotel-restaurant. At the end of the second world war, Andree the owner and her uncle Eugene relaunched the hotel business, with a strong emphasis on the restaurant side. In 1970, Raymond Maqua stepped in as chef and is still going strong. In 1991, when the hotel celebrated its centenary, Raymond, his brother Philippe and their wives took over management of the hotel.
