(SELF-CATERING GITE). On the premises of Les Vignes, across the moat from the manor, La Glycine (Wisteria), the 19th century caretaker's house, has been meticulously renovated to provide our clients with a comfortable and welcoming self-catering gite. The charming Norman farmhouse, which was standing long before the manor itself was built, has been restored to exacting standards. Wherever possible, original features have been retained, but all modern comforts have been added: new electrics and water, central heating, brand new bath and kitchen fixtures. With warm colors and comfortable furnishings throughout, the house is delighting its guests, witnessed by comments from the gite's Guest Book: A superb gite -- bright, spacious, beautifully decorated and very well fitted out. Welcoming and friendly hosts. Lovely local countryside and attractive villages. What more could anyone want? -- Carolyn John Bishop. Many thanks for meeting all our expectations. All your hard work has definitely paid off. You have created a wonderful place to relax, explore, eat drink. Thanks again. -- David Zeliha Newton. Having spent the previous week in a cramped and cluttered gite in Honfleur, it has been a delight to enjoy the tasteful comfort of La GlycineThe Champion supermarket in Beaumont-Le- Roger has met all our grocery needs...We heartily recommend La Caleche in Beaumont-Le-Roger for a meal outLeslie and Laurent have been kindness itself and have gone out of their way to give us a holiday to remember.--Joan Norman Robinson. We have so enjoyed staying with you again... La Glycine is lovely and we have particularly valued the peace and beauty of the garden at Les Vignes. We hope to be back with you again soon.-- John, Jackie, Oliver and Charlotte Butterwick. A rather excellent week at La Glycine, the perfect gite. Trips to Rouen and Giverny are musts, as is a meal at nearby L'Auberge de la ValleeFinally, thanks again to Leslie and Laurent for being the perfect hosts. We will be back. Phil and Jane Sullivan. What more is there to say? A super place to relax and enjoy the Normandy countryside. We saw the gite two years ago when it was still a shell and the finished product is a credit to the vision and hard work that Laurent and Leslie have put in. Thanks to you both for your excellent attention and hospitality. Margaret and Tony White. April 2007 -- We've had a terrific two weeks at La Glycine. It is clean, spacious, and comfortable with all the essentials for self-catering. Leslie and Laurent are friendly and helpful, and Leslie is a terrific cook. One of her gourmet meals is a must do. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and peaceful, but it is easy to get to outlying places of interest (such as) Caen, the Bayeux tapestry, Jumieges, and Honfleur. --Nancy Rudd and Bob Gold, Ohio USA. April 2007 -- What can we say? Third stay in the gite now. Something must be to our liking. And to top it all we had glorious weather too. We go home so relaxed. Looking forward to next year already. Thank you Leslie and Laurent. -- Jane and Phil Sullivan (Leicester). May 2007 -- To gite-virgins, such as ourselves, this has been a true delight. If all gites are like this one, there will be many happy visitors in France! Thank you, Leslie and Laurent, for our short but very sweet and excellent stay. The gite was luxurious and all your little attentions to detail made it extra special. A lovely haven from which to visit the surrounding countyside, and we really enjoyed our local walk and bike rides. Clearly, we'll have to come back for longer next time to explore all the delights -- Gina and Rob Davies (Guildford, Surrey). July 2007 -- Despite the weather, which has been mixed, we have thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Having experienced a very disappointing gite earlier on our holiday, it was both a pleasure and a huge relief to arrive at La Glycine, and we are happy to echo the complimentary comments made by the previous guestsBon chance to all those who follow. We hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we have done. -- Steve and Joan (Farnborough, Harts). August 2007 -- Wonderful to get away from it all! Perfect peace and quietBeautiful countryside walks in the heart of Normandy. The gite provides everything needed for a self-catering holiday. The local markets and super-markets have a whole range of meat, fish and fresh produce enabling you to try out French recipes in an authentic atmosphere. Many thanks to Leslie Laurent for providing the opportunity to stay in rural France. --Linda and Murray Rhodes, West Midlands. August 2007 -- We are so sad to be going home! Our week has been full of excitement, adventure and hedonism! Fishing was a great treat, and Leslie's meal was wonderful. The atmosphere here at Les Vignes is so special -- we saw kingfishers!! Thank you both for all your hard work and warm welcome. -- Denise, Mike and Jack B., Gowerton, Swansea. Les Vignes is very well situated in the Risle Valley, with supermarket, gas station, bakery, pharmacy, shops, post office, telephone, cash machine, and cafes and restaurants all located about a mile away. In consideration of our guests, the same house rules of the manor apply to La Glycine: no children under 14, no animals, and no smoking in the house. Although we offer short stays to our bed and breakfast clients, La Glycine is rented by the week in season, and 3-day minimum off season. La Glycine accommodates four people with a double bed in the bedroom and comfortable sleeper sofa in the living room. Weekly towels and bed linens are provided, as are pillows, blankets, and duvets. There is plenty of storage thanks to the walk-in closet. The bathroom fixtures are all new and include sink with vanity, toilet, and shower. The living room with television, radio, and CD player also has a dining area. The charming kitchen, with its original quarry tile floor and hearth, is newly equipped with full-sized refrigerator, microwave, gas stove with oven, and sink. Its ample cabinets are stocked with all the cooking and eating utensils you'll need, and there is a table with chairs where the cook can relax. Guests of the gite have access to many of the manor's recreation areas: the chestnut tree alley where they can enjoy a game of boules or relax in the shade on a bench; the bench and chairs on the terrace by the moat and nearby chaises longues; the four bicycles provided for guest use upon reservation. The main gates to the property are closed at night, so parking is secure. If there are no BB guests in the manor at the time, guests of the gite can use the garage. There is a barbecue area with table and chairs for exclusive use of guests of the gite. La Glycine is a self-catering gite, so clients cook their own meals or eat at one of the local restaurants. However, if there are no BB clients eating at the manor, clients can have a gourmet evening meal at the manor upon advance request. To reserve La Glycine, fill out the interactive Booking Form on the website. To confirm your reservation, send a security deposit cheque in the amount of £150 made payable to Leslie Denis. This cheque is not cashed but returned to you upon your departure after inspection of premises. Upon your arrival, you pay in cash in euros for the total amount of your stay. Those clients not wishing to pay in cash can send a banker's cheque or electronic wire transfer (ask for details) 6 weeks prior to the beginning or the rental.

Guests at Les Vignes Bed and Breakfast have often remarked that it really should not be called a BB. The title BB, they say, summons images of small, minimally equipped rooms and sometimes shared bathrooms. Ordinary BBs do not offer the luxury of Les Vignes manor, where each guest room is 25 square meters, with an equally large adjoining bathroom. In addition, the comfortable rooms are elegantly furnished, decorated, and equipped with an entertainment center including colour television with some English satellite channels and VCR with access to our VCR library. Guests are welcome to relax in our living room with its fireplace, colour television and full satellite channels, VCR/DVD center, jigsaw puzzle, board games, and magazines. Energetic guests can explore the neighboring Normandy countryside walking or riding our new bicycles. Lazier guests can lounge in the sun on chaises longues. The literary can read a book in the shade of the chestnut tree alley. The restless can find peace strolling around the grounds, watching the waterbirds flying along the canal which runs from the Risle River to Les Vignes, the trout swimming in the moat which surrounds the stately turn-of-the-century manor, the grapes ripening in our Victorian greenhouses, the horses grazing in neighboring pastures. Breakfasts also are extra-ordinary at Les Vignes, where guests enjoy orange juice, coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, and a daily homemade specialty or two such as blueberry muffins, pancakes, banana bread, or breakfast souffle. An added advantage not offered by ordinary BBs: our guests can choose to eat their evening meal at Les Vignes, to relax and unwind by candlelight after a day of sightseeing at nearby Honfleur, Deauville, Rouen, or Giverny. Leslie creates a 4-course gourmet meal with the guests' food preferences or allergies in mind, using vegetables and herbs from the garden and, of course, the four Normandy cheeses. The price of the evening meal includes house wine with the meal, and clients can take advantage of our full bar service for an aperitif before or a digestif after dinner. Obviously, Les Vignes is not an ordinary BB. We don't know what we should call it. With only two guests rooms, it isn't an hotel. With its elegant manor and beautiful grounds, it isn't a rustic auberge. Some guests have suggested luxury guest house, others exclusive retreat. Why not spend a few days with us and let us know what you think we should call Les Vignes, our special home in the heart of Normandy.
