St Bees, although a small village, has a number of features worthy of visit. Apart from a number of local walks, not to mention the start of Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk, there is a splendid 11th century Priory, one of the finest buildings in Cumbria. By car, Wasdale, Ennerdale and Bassenthwaite can be reached within 30-40 minutes. It is also within easy reach, even by train, of the Georgian town and restored harbour of Whitehaven, as well as the L'al Ratty miniature railway which goes from Ravenglass to Wasdale.
