Upstairs has a gallery and separate bar. There are various themed nights so check to see which night is best for you! Kartouche - The Maltings, Princes St, Ipswich Tel:(01473) 230666 This club is large and divided up into into a number of areas. There is a clear Moroccan/Arabian influence in its design. Again nights are themed, the upstairs bar has a small dance floor and plays an alternative mix of tunes. The club features resident and guest Dj's, although located outside Colchester it's worth a visit. Pals Ipswich - The Buttermarket, Ipswich Tel:(01473) 216767 A Brasserie by day and an excellent Nightclub by night. A great venue with a true party vibe. Set on two floors comprising of three separate areas this club truly has something for everyone. It only has a late license so its over by 1am! (smart dress code). nbsp Pals A popular venue so get there early if you don't want to queue. Twisters A small lively bar. Good but loud music Nice bar staff! The George Hotel Large lounge bar, a nice restaurant, great atmosphere! L'Aristos - The Colchester Mill Hotel, East St. Colchester Tel:(01206) 870990 A smaller club, nevertheless very popular. Again theme nights are the order of the day! A basement type feel can make this club appear smaller than it is, especially when its busy. This club may be more popular with older clubbers, there is plenty of opportunity to pull;). Route - 20-28 Queen St. Colchester Tel:(01206) 366377 A warehouse style lively club, Thursday is a big night you pay to get in (*15) and nothing else for drinks! A good atmosphere with a fairly young crowd, go along and see for yourself. (entry charge and promotion is subject to change check before). The George Hotel - 116 High St. Colchester Tel:(01206) 578494 A lovely old hotel along the main high street. Downstairs is a large lounge bar and a good restaurant. It is popular with all ages, a respectable quieter place to drink and chat with a friendly atmosphere. If you are planning to have a meal we recommend that you get there early or preferably book. Fred's Bar-Cafe - 77 East Hill, Colchester Tel:(01026) 790977 A nice modern bar off the main street. Popular with younger people and students. Nice bar staff too! There is seating around the bar and lots of tables and chairs. Twisters Cafe Bar - 45 North Hill, Colchester Another popular bar, it can be quite noisy and music is played quite loud. Sports hall and facilities for aerobics, badminton, squash etc... There is also a bar/restaurant and crche facilities. Open 6am - 10.30pm (although times may vary). Rollerworld Quasar - Eastgates, Colchester Tel:(01206) 868868 A first class roller-skating rink. Great atmosphere with a sound and light show that will please the kids. You can hire Rollerskates and Blades or bring your own. There is a cafe, bar shopand Quasar the laser combat game. Go Bananas - Cowdray Avenue, Colchester Tel:(01206) 761762 A huge indoor Adventure Playcentre for young children up to 12. There is a Giant Play frame, ball pools, bouncers, assorted toys lots more. The six metre climbing wall and spaceball are popular with both adults and kids. There is a cafe and adults go free. Open 7 days a week 9.30am - 6.30pm. Colchester Zoo Award winning zoo. Home to 200 animal species. Indikart Indoor go-karting Feel the need the need for speed!! Leisure World Indoor leisure centre. Three pools, slides, health fitness. Superbowl - Cowdray Avenue, Colchester Tel:(01206) 560500 Ten-pin bowling plenty of lanes although it is wise to book. There is a restaurant and Bar so you can make a night of it! IndiKart Indoor Karting - Whitehall Industrial Estate, Colchester Tel:(01206) 799511 A great chance to show off your racing driver skills, put the pedal to the metal and burn rubber! This is a great activity and would definitely be enjoyed by adults as much as kids. There is an age limit (children must be 8 or above). It is advisable to make advanced bookings! Open 7 days 10am - 10pm (including Bank Holidays). Colchester Zoo - Maldon Road, Stanway, Colchester Tel:(01026) 331292 Colchester Zoo is a fun and educational day out for all the family. The Zoo is well laid out and maintained. There are reptiles, spiders, big cats, monkeys, birds elephants, the list goes on! There is plenty of information for most displays so parents often learn a thing or two as well. Open daily from 9.30am (please check with zoo for admission prices!). Odeon Cinema - Crouch Street, Colchester Filmline Tel:0870 50 50 007 A good cinema in the centre of town. If you're a movie buff you can catch all the major new releases here. Its not a multiplex so seats are subject to availability and its best to phone and check whats showing at certain times. You can book tickets on the ticket line number given above!

There is plenty to do and see in Colchester, Britain's Oldest recorded Town. It's a great base for visiting the quaint local villages surrounding countryside made famous by Constable. Ferry Crossing Why not take a trip to the continent from Harwich Port. Sightseeing Essex is home to famous Constable Country. Steam Railways Go back in time to the the bygone age of steam train. Beth Chatto Gardens - Elmstead Market World famous gardens, divided into three main areas; A gravel garden for alpines and drought tolerant plants, water gardens with ponds and water loving plants and a large woodland area. Open: Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm (March to Oct), Monday - Saturday 9am - 4pm (Nov - Feb) Closed Sundays and Bank Holidays. Admission 3.00 (accompanied children free). East Anglian Steam Railway Museum - Chappel Station, Colchester Tel:(01206) 242524 A great look at 150 years of railway history. There are many steam engines and carriages lovingly restored and maintained. See how the railways have changed over the years. This museum will take you back to the fine early years of railway in Britain. Open: daily from 10am - 5pm. Colne Valley Railway - Castle Hedingham Tel:(01787) 461174 The largest collection of operational engines, carriages and wagons in the UK. Take a memorable trip through the beautiful Colne Valley. Entry to the adjacent Colne Valley Farm Park is also included in your admission. Open: 10am - 5pm (1st March - 23rd Dec). Admission - Adults 4, Children 2. Steam Day - Adults 7, Children 3.50. Layer Marney Tower - Layer Marney The tallest Tudor gate tower in England, attached to a fine historical building. A walk in the grounds you will uncover beautifully kept gardens, there is also the attraction of a deer and rare breeds farm. Open: 12pm - 5pm (1st April - 7th Oct), 11am - 5pm (22nd July - 7th Sept). Admission - Adults 3.50, Children (3 - 14 yrs) 2, Family (2 Adults 2 children) 10. Natural History Museum - High Street, Colchester Tel:(01206) 282939 Exhibits of local wildlife, and the natural world in general. There is a good degree of interactivity from the numerous touch exhibits and the accompanying information is very interesting.
